Dog and pony show? AFW closing?

http://aa-mro.com/company/about.aspx

One thing I did notice is that on the first page of the link, it says that all there mechanics are A&P's

AA-MRO's mechanics are Airframe and Powerplant licensed by the United States FAA. The average mechanic has over 16 years of experience throughout the system. American is fully staffed with Aircraft and Powerplant Engineers capable of providing all your needs — including DER regulatory, engineering or maintenance planning services. We are also FAR 145 and EASA qualified, and customer equipment can easily be added to the program.

It's an old site but this got my attention at the bottom of the home page...
FAA Repair Station #AALR025A • Copyright © 2012American Airlines, Inc. • not to mention the bio on Bill Collins, didn't he just get hired late 2010?

In the customer question and answer section it refers to AA-MRO as a aircraft maintenance company with AA as its key customer at this time......never heard verbage like that before.

What sucks is AA dont care either we could do them for free at this point and they will still want to get rid of us. Sad they will get rid of good mechanics to prove a point. To all the line aholes that think we should be at mro wages we are worth our a&ps and we are just as worthy as you. I garentee our birds wont hit the deck because of maintance. time will prove the others

Well you may have sealed your fate. Its been my observation that the better you do the more likely your station will get screwed. We had a pretty near perfect 767 B check for years at JFK, so what did they do? Ship it to Lax, STL had the best performance of all the line stations, what did they do? Shrink the station. MCI, same thing. AFW got their checks out early, thier performance was over 100%, they announced they are closing it. You could be working yourself out of a job!!

Just as with anyone else, I could be wrong but I believe AFW is being closed for one reason. It has nothing to do performance. It is the.cost to keep it open. While I believe a 100+% is cause to keep it open, someone in a cube behind a desk does not.

Of course it is the cost of keeping it open.

You guys tend to get caught up in wages & benefits being the only concern...

I've commented before on all the overhead costs i.e. securing, maintaining, heating, cooling, powering, complying with EPA and OSHA, etc.

It's not cheap by any means. And in Mexico, Costa Rica, etc. the cost of complying with their equivilent of EPA, OSHA, security is probably a fraction of what it is in the US, plus you don't have the weather extremes to contend with....

Governmental costs should be a no brainier when the president has the AFL-CIO in his pocket.

Unfortunately, the AFL-CIO has no influence over EPA, OSHA, or any number of the other alphabet agencies other than perhaps the NMB.

I say AFW stays open, no dock space for widebody "C" checks, and what part of" American" Airlines says contract maintenance in El Salvador.

With the latest rumor - 1200 to 1600 to the street, no one has defined that statement. Is that number considering AFW or retirees? I believe the retirements in TUL are approaching 1,000.
