Afa Walk's Out On Us Airways Management

AGREED!!!! Then you wouldn't have a problem with Phoenix and Vegas having a 20 year fence then?

I don't!! I could care less about coming to PHX. However, you will be lucky for a 2 year fence. East/West can negotiate the highest fence in the world. The company cannot/will not allow a fence that long. It is operationally not possible.

So what's the problem then? After seeing your seniority list, none of our F/As would even dream of transfering to your bases just to go back on reserve. That would be stupid!

Besides, it's not just US West who are negotiating this. The negotiating team that are involve are US East negotiators. They agreed to this, so why don't you ask them?

I doubt that East would nego something that would block PHX but nothing else. Most of the East union people are PSA and live somewhere West. Bottom line, a fence has to be across the board and operationally, it won't be as long as you may want. If it were up to me, I would say do a global bid (something you guys never had to do)and list all bases in order of your preference. You get what your seniority will hold. If one doesn't like it, there's the door. That would end the fence wouldn't it?

Sorry, it's not up to you. It's up to the AFA negotiators, so Ask them yourself. Here is the list of negotiators:

AFA negotiators are the MEC Presidents at AWA (Gary Richardson)
and US Airways (Mike Flores) and two merger representatives from
AWA (Bill McGlashen) and US Airways (Carol Austin) along with
AFA International staff negotiators, one of whom is Joe Burns
our Staff Negotiator and Attorney.

Oh puhleeze! None of our F/As wants to go any of your bases to be on reserve! We have seen your seniority list. We're not even getting any pay increases! We couldn't care less if you fence your base forever.
Our seniority list is pretty isnt it? We have more f/a's with 10 yrs or more then the former AWA has employed. A fence will be for all bases, not just one. You are going to be lucky to get more then a 2 yr fence at best. I am going to agree with Twice on this one, you can keep your PHX, believe it or not there is life outside of AZ. Most Ueast f/a are based where the great trips are at, not on what seniority they have. If AWA ever had more then one crew base they would understand how this game is played.

My understanding is that the fence would stay up for U-West not to come into our bases or fly our international flights for the premiums as well.

So far, the LECs have not been informed on any agreements. There is no agreements unless the LECs sign off on it. The neogtiators are just hammering out issues through discussion.

Nope. Not up to them. Their job is to have discussion and come up with a proposal. The LECs vote on whether its an greement or not.

Fly your international flights? We fly international too and we'll be doing more in the future from the west coast. Besides....after seeing the seniority list in the East coast, I doubt any of us will be able to hold them anyway. We have a better chance of holding international flights in the west coast . I personally don't care about international flights, since they are a pain in the ass to work. I prefer to work 2 day trips with 1 leg home. The only ones that I know that wants to transfer out of phoenix are the furloughed US F/A that were hired by AWA and they are all reserves.

With the headquarters now based in phoenix, what makes you think the great trips in the future won't be flown out of here?

No your seniority is not pretty and from the attitudes that I am seeing here from US East F/As, AWA F/As are not going to get any support which is pretty sad! No protection for HP F/As, no pay increases for us (who cares right?, you people have it and we don't), no fence , but yet you want some of our flexibility, our vacation, our dead head pay, our flight cancellation pay protection and everything else that is good in our contract, but when it comes to protecting our bases and pay...forget it! You laugh at us. Looks like we are going to have a bunch of Scabs when it comes to picketing and chaos actions. This is exactly what the company wants, a divided work group.

I think this attitude issue is a two way street. You are forgetting one thing, we at Ueast have been dealing with this type of mgmt mentality for alot of years now. When push comes to shove you will be happy to have the top heavy seniority and fighting spirit of the Ueast crews. Bottom line is mgmt is going to fight for what "our" contract holds because we have the more cost effective contract. It is up to the NT as a team to stand firm and for all of USAirways f/a's to back that team. If there are any divisions, it will most certainly be over the fence issue, because the Uwest f/a's think that is worth all this bickering over, the company will most certainly dwell on that, in fact I am sure they are counting on it. Maybe you need to sit back and take a good hard look at whats at stake. You want job protection? You want a pay raise? You want better health care? or Do you want to fight over an extended fence around crew bases? Personally, the fence is the least of our concerns regarding a contract intergration.

If it comes to informational picketing to bring U-West up to pay pariety, and the MEC decides this is the route to go for leverage...you bet your azzes we are all IN.

You are exactly correct. You cite the main issues we should all be concerned about. I venture to say that if you polled U-East, they wouldn't give a damn about PHX base.

The IAM has filed a change of control grievance.
SO WHAT! Why don't you get some of our money and benifits back instead of a grievence that will go nowhere. Your all show. No substance. I've seen nothing from you on the execs pay raises except a little rhetoric. Talk is cheap! The End

With the headquarters now based in phoenix, what makes you think the great trips in the future won't be flown out of here?

You are so niave!!!!!!!!!! Our headquarters was in DCA which had some of the worst flying. PHL has the best which has NO operational headquarter anything. Our OCC is in PIT, again, those trips suck.
You seem to have the perception that since the head quarters is in PHX your base will be supreme. That's just geography my friend. The Int'l flying will stay in the East. And by international, we are not talking Mexico which you think of as International. We are referring to Europe. Your base will likely never see it. Come out of the clouds and see what a great thing this is. As I stated elsewhere, you are playing big airline now. Old US rev base is more than twice that of yours. We won't be losing anything to PHX. Sorry!!

Gee with all this crying over PHX, maybe we should all take our seniority and transfer out there to see what all the crying is about. They keep saying how great it is, hmmmmmmmm might just be worth a looksy. They are screaming about our seniority now, imagine how senior we'd be by the time the fence comes down, and then we all go charging in.

Could not have been said any better!

There is not one USeast who won't back AFA 100% when asked to.

There is alot of fear at USwest, and it's completely understandable. They all have seen our seniority list and are probably asking which comes first, the walker or the cart? They also know that US Airways is made up of PSA people. What they don't understand is most of the PSA people have left the company or relocated to the east coast. Not to say there aren't people who would tranfer to PHX or LAS given the chance. Of all the people I've flown with since the announcement of the merger, only 1 has said she would try to transfer to PHX. If it makes the F/As in the west more comfortable then put the fence up.

I do believe we should ALL have the same pay scale since we all working for the same company now.
