Air Jamaica is coming back to St. Lucia in a big way. The airline, which suspended service to the Eastern Caribbean nation last March, will begin nonstop service from New York to St. Lucia starting Feb. 23.

The restoration of service - which was suspended while the airline reorganized and worked to comply with accelerated maintenance schedules required by American and Jamaican aviation agencies - is great news for tourists and St. Lucian nationals.

"We are announcing important service today," said Air Jamaica executive George de Mercado, speaking before airline executives and officials from St. Lucia's tourist board and hotel industry gathered in Manhattan recently to discuss the new service and a big increase in hotel occupancy coming in the spring.

Flights will depart from JFK Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays, leaving New York at 7 a.m. and arriving in St. Lucia at 12:35 p.m. On the return segment, flights will leave St. Lucia at 6:35 p.m. and return to New York at 10:15 p.m.
