There is a rumor going around that Tempe is in the process of reducing shift managers across the system. Allegedly, the process has already started with West stations, and will be working to the East in the coming months. Supposedly, there is a new formula being employed that gives each airport 1 manager for every 10 flights. Anyone else heard of this, and if so, can it be confirmed by anyone?

It's about time that we got rid of some of the dead weight. Nothing personal but I realize that some managers just aren't capable of being managers.

Rogue.....

Interesting, Reducing management and let the troops do there jobs without micro managing them. What a grand idea

Mainline, express, or both types of flights?

Not sure. Like the topic says, there are rumors going around and there is usually someone in USAviation land that can either confirm or deny the rumors. As of right now, it looks like just another tale dreamed up to keep the pot stirring.

Well, this would be a good thing since managers are evil and they are never around when yo need one anyway!

NO not evil just expendable got rid of a bunch of the years of the mergers

In some cases it's the station or department manager that is the problem, not the
shift manager(s).
I think the company is reducing management staff because they can run the stations effectively with less management
Cost is the problem in their eyes not talent. It is all about the station budget. Who is going to get wracked heck of a working environment

i would urge the tempe brain trust to reconsider what their doing ....In this economy these men and women will not be able to find employment elsewhere ...

How will they pay their mortages ? their car payments ? feed their children ?

And i'm not just saying this concerning the managers but all us airways workers ....

Surely there is no need to turn people onto the streets ? Can't we have these folks start cleaning planes etc? i'm sure this company could find work for it's employee's ...

What kind of company are we if we abandon our own in desperate times like these ?

There are a few hundred Utility folks on layoff who's former job was to clean planes, go read the IAM M&R CBA, they would have first rights to clean planes if the work is brought back inhouse, not some manager who is not part of a union, and what are you going to say when the West stations that get closed down as soon as the protections expire?

At my last station they cut a large number of fleet service and the shift managers barely winced. They could have cared less. They didn't plead to Tempe to save our jobs. If you were RIFfed out of PHX, do you think they would care? They would say, "Just trimming the fat."

Roughly 50 Shift Managers from outstations have been given notice they no longer have jobs effective around the middle of June.
