Does the new US have plans to move to Amadeus in a couple of years with the rest of Star? Hadn't heard anything about that with all the discussion of picking EDS for the new carrier.

Please tell me we're not sticking with EDS and this god awful sabre system. 🙁

I read somewhere (HP's 'Plane Deal' I think) that US folk were already starting QIK training. Not knowing much of anything about Sabre (I can pull up loads, check on where my plane is, and a few other things) and nothing about QIK, is QIK just an overlay on Sabre or a different system?

hopefully it will be as user friendly as PACER/ARTS. Yeah, I still miss it...and yeah....I still hate Sabre.

QIK is an overlay to SHARES
which is what CO uses
Sabre is a great system US just bought the cheap version

Cheap version was 20 mil for 20 year contract....thank you Mr. Wolfe...grrrrrr

My understanding that it is a requirement of all members of *A to go to Amadeus, just unsure of the timeline.

Also getting rid of Sabre was done through the merger/BK, it got us out of a horrendous lease of a limited version of Sabre.

I was very pleased to hear that we were able to shuck that contract. Not sure what Amadeus is like, hopefully it is user friendly

Thanks, and the above is what I've understood from talking to the IT folks in RIDC (the one's that used to work for US then went with Sabre/EDS when IT was outsourced). They said that Sabre was available in the base version with add-on options and US didn't check any of the option boxes.

You are corect Boeing Boy. The contract was secured as everyone was panicked about 2000, remember all the fuss. Turned out to be a lemon.

I did notice that Sabre was on the list of contracts that the company wanted an additional 6 months post-BK to decide to reject or assume. Sabre objected, and the contract was moved to the list of contracts assumed. But with QIK being only an overlay to Sabre, wouldn't we still need the Sabre contract (though a combined contract for the combined carrier)?

Native SABRE is actually a good system indeed. If you bothered learning how to use it.

Fastair is an overlay to SABRE that some carriers use; it is also used by some UAL cities to overlay Apollo. US chose not to use Fastair at the ATOs. I've mentioned in another post that people at airlines using Fastair have told me that native SABRE is actually faster than Fastair, but does take longer to learn.

Of course, if the Amadeus rumors are true, in a few years we'll hear from people griping about how much better SABRE was..... 😀
