My understanding is that Qik (Qantas Interactive Keypad) can be used on many different CRSs. Many airlines & travel agencies use it around world.

Do both HP & US use QIK? Do they both have developers that program it for you?

US does not use qik....but some agents are in training for it in Tempe

My understanding of Amadeus is that it is NOT a mainframe Keystroke intensive system like the older legacy systems such as Sabre.

Your understanding is incorrect.

QIK is a client for use with SHARES (Shared Airline Reservations Entry System) it was owned by CO. At one time it was called SHARES-System One, or System One-SHARES. That name goes back when Lorenzo (remember him?) raided the assets of Eastern.

I'm not sure when CO sold their controlling interest, but it is now owned by EDS and is not SABRE. Maybe SABRE is in fact owned by EDS, but I know that native SHARES is nothing like SABRE. CHQ pass bureau has both Native SHARES, and QIK SHARES.

If you have access to a dumb terminal and know command line functions, you can pull up an aircraft routing. I'm not sure how it works with QIK. QIK limits user functions based on the user sine. The F-keys change according to the department using it and the user sine. It's basically a fill in the blank client, then it does the rest of the work.

I suppose it's a life saver if you work ticket counter. I remember from cross utilization days how hard stored ticketing could be. Then came XFOPS and passenger facility charges. Back then it was all command line functions. If you did'nt know the entry, you were dead in the water.

Thanks - I really ought to put my glasses on at least once in a while. I misread an earlier post as saying that QIK was an overlay on Sabre when it said SHARES.

QIK can be an overlay to anything. "Qantas Intelligent Keypad" can be used to interact with many different legacy host systems. Qik has been used at USAir since 1995 in reservations. It's called "CARE" at US.

Ok - I'll shut up now. What's the old saying? "Better to keep quiet and let people wonder how dumb you are than open your mouth and remove all doubt."

😳 😳
