American Airlines and Labor Negotiations

Under the current Federal government conditions, the advantage goes to the corporate world.

Targeting this sentence particularly. Don’t ever kid yourself that there are ever really any Federal Government conditions that ultimately don’t slant towards the Corporate World. They always do. Just some groups are more transparent about it.

But anyway I still come back to this where I have to ask is this a future bit of Deja Vu? Does either Union within the Association have their own “must haves” that they just aren’t willing to capitulate on?

May 22, 2014. IAM and USAIRWAYS Negotiations

“As we left Dallas today we have left the future negotiations in Linda Puchala's hands. She will determine when and if we return to this type of negotiations or move into the next phase of the Railway Labor Act. We have made it clear to the Company and the NMB that there is little room for adjusting our stated positions on the remaining issues but will follow the directive of the NMB and attend any and all negotiation sessions in an effort to conclude these talks and move forward to the next step in this process“

Sure, for the pilots it was expanding the size of the planes they would lose to a regional operation. In a case like that, it would be more successful on the union side if the "must have" is something other airlines have kept or have. Things that others have lost, like their pensions and retiree medical, don't typically make it out of the process.

I like where your head is at, but most people have been hammered into complacency. Sure, the breakroom warriors will stomp their feet, but most people in our industry are either to apathetic or afraid to actually do anything courageous. I would be very happy to be proven wrong, though.

Kev honestly aren’t you one of those very breakroom Warriors yourself? Seriously from your little perch, in your small city what have you done recently?

If you’re so serious wouldn’t you be of better service if you moved right into the heart of the enemy encampment (ATL) and awaken the passion of those living under the lash and rise them up to a glorious victory?

Here is some food for thought for all of you "Must Have" guys...

If Medical was a "must have" for the Airline Business Model, why did LUS simply not take it away in bankruptcy when they could have without our consent?
The very same dude that was running LUS is now running AA. What has changed?
Cadillac Medical should be even less expensive for the combined companies, since larger employee bases ultimatly lower costs. Also, Trump killed Obamacare, so that is even more reason to keep LUS medical for the entire group! Thanks Trump!

The same for Catering, if it was not working in the pre-merger business model for LUS, why did they not take it away in abrogation? The two combined Companies have less competition, more resources, and more net profits than either of the two pre-merger companies combined!

Why were "must haves" post-merger, not "must takes" pre-merger?

>SPIT<

LUS was not in BK under this management team?????

There will never be a strike at LAA, UA, SWA, DL or any other large airline.

Voting it down is one of the few ways to get something enhanced, not usually a big item, but something.

100% agree with you here. Could interrupt those Breakroom Warriors Dominos game anyway.

Please don’t get me started on the Pensions and Retiree Medical. I keep feeling like I’m having body parts chopped off just thinking about it.

What happens at one carrier affects all of them. I make no apologies for being interested in our collective future(s).

Piedmont’s just shook that I posted an uncomfortable truth.

I also make no apologies for calling out shitty contracts or labor leaders. No one should.

I agree with ur comments, but at the same time, some people come to the AA forum to stir the pot, not knowing anything, just to be annoying...I'm speaking generally nobody specific

So you’re of far better service hiding up in the Ozarks sending notes down to the Front lines putting those who you send your messages to in the line of Fire instead.

Ok gotcha.

NYer:

What will happen on 9/12/18 to the LAA TWU stations below 25 departure? Aren’t SJU, SAT and STL all at risk?

Will the IAM’s stubbornness on IAMNPF and LUS healthcare be their final screwing to the LLCers who will have to end their careers at 25% or 4/10/01 cities?

Josh

It's so funny. AA is being compared to Delta from the media, management and both union and non union employees. In this forum here, daily, people have questions about Delta, their pay, profit sharing, work rules, outsourcing etc... You have a guy here who works at Delta, can give you exactly what you want to know, also may offer an opinion or two. Yet a few of you take liberty to bash, criticize, belittle the guy. Some of you guys are just unbelievable.

Ozarks? Lol. Jesus. They not teach geography in NY?

Madison Wi. Ozarks. Middle of nowhere. Sorry.

A station like SJU can be closed by contractual language.

Other stations have an advantage of being a co-habitator with an IAM operation and there is a little bit more protection for them. However, the cross-utilization agreement that may protect some of them only covers the Members that were on payroll as of August 4th, 2016. Anyone hired in those stations after that date has no protection at all they could be laid off.

There is debate whether the airline will do that, but there shouldn't be a debate whether they could do it. The language is there.
