American Airlines and Labor Negotiations

No it’s not a conflict of interest. Having a seat on the Board gives you a voice in the overall general direction of the Company. And besides the ALPA Pilots Union also has a seat on the Board. Should they also be accused of having a conflict of interest against their Membership.

I wish the TWU/ IAM Association had a seat on AA’s BOD.

Let me understand this... the General Vice-President of the IAM who represents LUS union members working for American Airlines would also be on the BOD for United Airlines? In the meanwhile, Management considers it to be a "conflict of interest" should a ramp agent work for both AA and DL slinging bags-- and better yet, the IAM has refused to defend such workers in support of Management's position?

Something to ponder as the Company pushes for more part-time positions.

Dont forget the chit deals he negotiated for UAL.So bad the CEO came in and offered something better

The Democrats problem is they abandoned the people that work for a living. And turned to illegal immigration to make them citizens, and people that don't want to work to create a permanent underclass to support them. This this driven middle class Americans to the GOP.
..... only one problem with your analysis. Democrats never favored working people. What they favored was a political funding machine. You call it a UNION.

Some UNIONs have become nothing more than money laundering schemes for the Democratic Party. Amtrak anyone?

You know it's true.

What's with the company wanting to cut so many jobs and then turn around and hire an insane amount of managers do they realize how F@@king stupid they look

I agree with you 1000% that they appear to be becoming more stupid. Unfortunately they do not even care at all about what an insult that is to the work groups.

Mgmt looking n acting stupid is what they excel at best . i dont think there's any other US airline than AA mgmt that does excell at being and acting stupid. More mgrs. So if they wanna lay off how bput laying off large numbers of mgmt personel

OK... let's say I give you credit for your viewpoint, and agree that Corporate America has taken over politics..
Let's also say hypothetically, that I were to agree that Democrats haven't fought hard enough to stop it. Let's also say Republicans have not only NOT attempted to stop it, but facilitated it...

Now... whom do think WE as Unionist should vote for?

Of course, neither party is perfect, but Democrats clearly are more pro-labor. There is absolutely no way a Democratic Speaker would champion RTW laws like Ryan has. That tells us beyond a shadow of a doubt which party is more labor-friendly.

There are many issues that people might support that would cause them to vote GOP, but none of them have anything to do with support for organized labor, so I won't mention them here to avoid going off topic on a labor thread.

to me, this is where the democratic party has made it's decision. illegal immigrants shift wealth from blue-collar american workers to...:

the source here is the ny times, from 'the center for immigration studies', where the word, immigration, is blurred...illegal or legal? using the word, immigration, for all (legal and illegal), is the obvious tip-off to the source's angle.

other economists, including nobel prize winners, will tell you that illegal immigration depresses wages.

so, just exactly on who's side are the democrats on?

i know blue-collar legal immigrants and subsequent american citizens who voted for trump because they had to stand in line and follow the rules. someone born in this hemisphere has an inherent right to cross the border and demand to be left alone or demand to become a citizen?

stand in line like others have.

I make no excuses for people who come here and don't follow the rules, and I don't know about where you live, but most of the undocumented workers I assume you are referring to where I live, are doing work that nobody else seems that excited about doing. I doubt you will find any working for any major companies like UPS or Starbucks. They all require ID's and SSN's. They certainly cannot pass a SIDA background check.

I am interested to know what jobs these undocumented immigrants might be taking that American citizens would want? There is not a large variety of people standing at the day labor sites here. I would assume if there was a large demand for that kind of work, we would see more diversity in those who seek it.

Again, I am not making excuses for people breaking laws. I am asking who wants to do the work they are doing and what jobs are they taking from citizens?

it's definitely not as clear-cut as it once was. the tpp was once obama's & hillary's baby.

we are now at the mercy of trickle-down economics and have to hope for the best. increased profits (artificial profits, such as corporate tax cuts...less regulation) will trickle down to us. i don't believe they will, the powers that be prefer to give that surplus to the shareholder, which is them, by the way.

the richest 1% of americans own some 45% of all shares outstanding in this country.

And which party has repeatedly tried to sell trickle down economics to us?

I've asked this question repeatedly and get crickets each time:
Name all the great things 8 years of Obama did for Labor...

Again, I am not making excuses for people breaking laws. I am asking who wants to do the work they are doing and what jobs are they taking from citizens?

I'd like to know what carve outs U.S. Citizens get from our nation of laws?
None? Then why do illegals get them?
It's not about jobs that some may not want to do. I've had numerous jobs I didn't like, they were ALL building blocks to my work experience and resume.

When you say "trickle down economics" I assume you mean the idea of tax cuts and smaller government, more Capitalism, less Socialism. Lets go with that analogy for now.

Ok, so, please post for me all the great Socialist economies in the world.

I can think of some real time Socialist Disasters, Venezuela comes to mind where folks are literally starving in what was the richest country in South America with vast natural resources, and embraced Socialism and Central planning.

Then look at Singapore, with zero natural resources, embraced Capitalism and the place is a monument to opulence.

Socialism has never worked anywhere since recorded history. Then next time it works will be the first time.
Capitalism OTH, has created more wealth for more people in the history of the world.
