Was hoping that everyone would boycot the lunch today, but no such luck. Lots of people getting their chicken and hot dog with a smile on their face. I feel that if this company really appreciated the AMTs then a fair contract would have been negotiated by now. I looked for some Local 514 leaders, but we have not seen hide nor hair of them in a while. Oh, by the way, thanks for the kind words AA Management but I would rather have Memorial Day off with pay like I used to and you still enjoy. Giving us a free lunch is like urinating on our collective back and telling us it's raining!

Remember Memorial Day is not about you getting a paid dayoff, it is about the veterns who sacrificed for the USA.

AA is a 24/7 operation, pilots and f/a's are away from home every holiday, gate agents, FSC's and line mechs work every holiday.

Thanks for the pizza AA, it is a nice gesture, but a good contract offer would be a better gesture.

PAID day off?

Gee, isn't that one of the 5 holidays AA took from me?
I wonder how many executives will forego their BBQs to be at work Monday?
I cannot believe all the hoopla about who ate and who boycotted..

Does anyone truly believe that the higher ups give a rat's arse whether or not food was boycotted?
AMT day is not an AMERICAN AIRLINES day of recognition, but a day for AIRCRAFT MECHANICS (screw the AMT title).
AA does not own the rights to this day.
What "symbol" was sent?

I've never been more embarrassed to see grown men argue about who ate and who did not.
Local management were laughing their arse's off.

Boycotting shows unity. It is a start. We can build from that. If only we can convince the guys that saw it as a free meal ticket. We need to start working together and support our negotiators. If everything is hunky doory then the company will not take negotiations serious. Bottom line is that it is up to us on the floor to stop moving the metal without using the correct manuals. Just do it right. CYA and use the MM. Is that asking too much?

... snip

Yes - sacrificed for the USA so even the corporate vermin can do as they do and be protected.

No, Duke - I, for one, haven't forgotten what Memorial Day is all about - others have, however - it's rather unfortunate some "make up lessons" re: Memorial Day can't be arranged.

LOL AMT Day!
DFW warned, TCA right next to us warned and went to basement.
DWH no warning on storm! Not a phone call, no flashing WARNING LIGHT, no nothing. Gee who drop the ball!
Thanks to the AMT's from KC that we know at DFW that cared!!!!!!!! There was more than one.

This is exactly what I mean. They pretend we are a part of the team for one day and then screw us the other 364! When are we going to stand together on something?

I'm really surprised no one has tried to start a trend to boycott the family picnic at TUL this coming weekend.

Maybe when the heroes from TUL who went to DFW on a field trip return will start the boycott...

Brothers and Sisters,

May 24th has become a day where the aviation industry can stop and recognize Charles E. Taylor and today’s skilled AMTs for their valuable contributions to aircraft maintenance, industry wide. This day belongs to every AMT who carries the heavy responsibility of providing safe, airworthy aircraft. Unfortunately, 3 years without a new contract, it’s obvious that AA doesn’t realize the importance that AMTs provide to aviation, so why would we celebrate together at this time?
We will not participate in “AMT Day” Celebration with the company on May 24, 2011.

C'mon, you made that up?? I've never seen a mechanic pass up a free meal.

(I assume there was a free meal?)

Maybe AA will celebrate next year with their outsourcing partners - who also have AMTs.
