"And the Envelope Please "

I am simply saying that the best job security and improvements in compensation come from a company that is doing well financially on its own merits and relative to the industry.

DL and NW merged to create an airline that was stronger than either were before and they continue to grow the company such that employees, stockholders, and the community/customers benefit.

What DL has done since the NW merger is not a whole lot different from what DL did with other mergers before.... DL has grown from the base obtained in the Western, Pan Am, and Northeast mergers such that the DL of today in each of those areas is stronger than what either DL or those merged/acquired airlines were before.

DL had a strategic need for a strong presence in the midwest and Asia; NW delivered beautifully in each of those areas and the PMNW employees and communities are benefitting from DL's commitment to integrate the strengths of DL w/ the strengths of NW to create a stronger airline.
