Just something that a progressive management team would be on top of. Like our competitor, etc. Instead I think they attempted a test with some system, and only because the manufacturer or the FAA was paying for the test.......

A Savings of about 50lbs / aircraft. 350ac x 50lbs.= how much weight.

Hell include the rj's and dash8's and your really talking some fuel savings per month.....

Wow, really grabbing at straws in an attempt to make the executive suite look like imbeciles. Not even Debbie "Dragqueen" Downer is that desperate to give management a black eye. I would surmise that if the Ipads are approved through strict testing, they will make their way into the FD.

The Management Team has a pretty good track record in regards to several highly publicized blunders. While this one not might not be a huge one, it is still one of many.

It's not so much that it's a blunder. Because really it isn't. Express Jet, a regional carrier already has approval I believe to use these. Alaska is testing it, and now delta is looking into it.

It's more of an issue as it seems that you never see anything of real substance which this management team does. The change in first class etc, well it's simply a small step back towards what it used to be, but far from it.

I really have yet to see anything innovative in this brain trust to attempt to lower the actual costs within the airline, besides the mantra of We can't pay you the average of our peers because we are not like our peers, but we can certainly provide bonuses greater than our peers to ourselves for the awesome job we are doing.

Internet inflight, uhmmm...wasn't that put in place because they got someone to pay for it? and only on 321's, What do our competitors offer? etc etc

In the past, US would normally be at the front line of some of these things. No more.....

Last innovative thing I saw was the purchasing of mortgage backed securities, and we saw how that went....

The only area in which this management team innovates is which new fees to charge that the other airlines wouldn't think of......

That said, I do think they are beginning to get the message that they have to treat customers as assets not liabilities...now if only they could come to the same realization with regard to employees......

My BEST to you all...

would these ipads stay on the A/C or would they travel with the pilots ? if they stay on the A/C i would think that would give rise to theft ..... and if they travel with the pilots , what happens if they forgot to charge them ?

I do think US installed an EFB for test over a year ago.
And also arent the envoy seats a US desgned exclusive seat?
Seems that would be inovative and much more expensive then just buying off the rack.

I would expect that a charging cradle would be part of the installation to prevent the charging issue.

Yes, the EFB's were installed over a year ago. However, it's just been recently that the first one was turned on. They've been sitting there, in the way, doing nothing, for over a year. I have no idea when all of them will actually be operational. It's sort of the same debacle as the painting of the fleet.

I just used the EFB last week.....the ONE that is actually operational. It's a nice system, but probably can't hold a candle to the iPad.

I think the FAA only recently approved EFB's that use tablet devices. Aircraft manufacturers built in versions have been approved for some types for a number of years I think, and laptops have also. B6 has used laptops either since they started up or within a year or two of startup. WN also uses laptops.

Art...

How you make that comment with a straight face boggles my mind. I see you and Bob still posting away on here years later, with all that has transpired in the years we've had these boards and you STILL don't want to believe a very simple truth.

You are holding out hope for an epiphany in the executive suite that ain't coming.

LOL, this ain't .... (wait for it)... rocket surgery. 🙄

Ours just got turned on. The only mode available until now was simulated- a rubber band around the middle holding the paper chart.

That fits what I said - the FAA just approved use of tablet type devices within the last 2-3 weeks. Since the IPod was mentioned earlier, I assumed US has a tablet type device. If that's wrong I apologize and retract what I said (see- some people can do that).

You're making progress. Now, go retract the false statement you made about me under the pilot thread.
