From New Piper Aircraft:

*****
New Piper employees have voted 401 to 307 to decertify the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers as their collective bargaining representative. The union represented 750 workers who were in the first year of a three-year contract. The rejection, in an election conducted by Region 12 of the National Labor Relations Board, nullifies the existing collective bargaining agreement. Before the election, local Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers obtained a copy of a March 10 letter to employees from Piper CEO James K. Bass that urged employees to vote against the union. The union's status was challenged by a non-union employee, Susan Groenwoldt, the local newspaper chain reported. In an interview with Scripps, she said the union failed to deliver on its promises. The union held a picnic prior to the election to rally support.

employees usually want more than a picnic for $500 a year.

I think the handwriting is on the wall at US AIRWAYS and if there is an election with mechanics & Fleet service then I think it is genuinely fair to say that the IAM will be shown the door by both groups in quite a decisive way.

The I Am Mugged union is a dinosaur incapable of change. It's already fossilized. It might have been a great thing in the early part of the last century but it has found itself incapable and not legitimate in representing the modern worker.

The word from HR/Labor Relations is that they should know in the next week or two whether or not there will be a vote.

Piper Employees Vote Union Out

ANN has just learned that Region 12 of the National Labor Relations Board conducted a decertification election at The New Piper Aircraft, Inc. The election hours were from 1:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at two polling locations at Piper’s plant located at 2926 Piper Drive, Vero Beach, Florida.

Subsequent to the close of the polls, NLRB officials manually tabulated the ballots. The ballot tally was 307 votes to retain the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers as the collective bargaining representative and 401 votes to oust the IAMAW as the collective bargaining representative.

The results of the NLRB election mean that Piper employees chose to reject continued union representation and to nullify the existing collective bargaining agreement.

The New Piper Aircraft, Inc., is headquartered in Vero Beach, Fla., and is the only GA manufacturer to offer a complete line of aircraft for every GA mission, from trainers and high-performance aircraft for personal and business use to turbine-powered business aircraft.
