Does anyone know if there are any plans to add flights between Florida cities? We did have commuter service out of TPA to quite a few cities now nothing. Just curious.

no. we are actively stagnating to "rightsize" our operation--status quo will prevail...god forbid we allow innovation to corrupt our regional sensibilities.

Piedmont with the Piedmont Shuttle owned intra-Florida flights, now WN and OH own it.

Well, there is a market. Spirit just started MCO-FLL and the flights are very full. They are adding TPA-FLL next month.

When US/East announced the FLL 'mini-hub' operations, there was to be a USX base in FLL with 5 or 6 flights a day to Tampa, Orlando, Key West, Nassau... and a few daily flights to markets in the Carolinas, Virginia, Jacksonville, Pensacola, Panama City (FL), and Bahamas, Turks Caicos, Grand Cayman, etc. This was on top of the daily flights to FLL from EWR, BDL, LGA (4), BOS, PIT (3), PHL (10), CLT (8), DCA (4), BWI, SJU (2), MBJ, KIN, SDQ, CUN, GUA, SJO, PTY, SAL...

Somehow only the 3 EYW turns and MCO flight survived for instate service. Now only CUN, MBJ, KIN, and SDQ will be all the international svc FLL gets from US.

The TPA, NAS, EYW, MCO, and PLS flights were *all* loaded in the system last year, but were all axed. I think US would do fantastic to reclaim Florida. Broward County has expresses interest in expanding the E concourse and adding room for a USAirways Club and RJ jetways.... but the company never accepted. Delta has since taken up all the markets that USAirways could have dominated.... FLL could have been a fantastic HUB for USAirways if they had only given it more time and spread out the bank so it wasn't on top of everyone else...

I think most of those plans were axed in concurrance with the 2nd bk and the stoppage of deliveries of any more 170's and 700's....

Well this is ANOTHER area that we should fight for instead of running with our tails under our butts from the likes of Spirit. We really did have that market in the pocket way back when.

Ironic - the guy who conceived the FLL minihub for US (Big Bad Ben Baldanza) is now heading up Spirit. I guess he sees a market there despite the competition.

There is such an incredible opportunity to establish a strong presence there thats it's maddening to see it not happen. OK, we scaled back due to BK-2, but were out. Lets hope the new team will show an interest there as well. I think we have so much opportunity in many places that picking which ones to go after will be the interesting part. We've relinquished so much of our stronghold all over our system over the years. It's gonna take a while to try and gain some of it back.

No new intra-Fl service will come. US gave that all to WN and DL many years ago.

The FLL mini-hub looked good on paper but was NOT thoroughly planned out. The setup of Customs and Immigration reminded me of Phillie South- inept operation delays/lines/pissed off people/missed connections. If this facility EVER got its act together,FLL could seriously give MIA competition.....until then it will be PHL South with palm trees, misconnects and a potential meltdown.

Just flew in from SDQ on sunday, what a joke the customs area is, thank god we were the Only flight in at that time of the morning, could not imagine more than one flight coming in at the same time! The customs area was the size of a Small airport boarding area with at least 10 customs booths in a "L" shape. We only had 45 people on our flight heaven help us if we were full or came in with another flight, there would be Absolutly No place for these people to stand, the line would be all the way back to the jetway! And then you have to walk out side and go to terminal 3, real nice if it happens to be storming out!

I think that has a lot to do with the retiming of the "banks" at FLL. I know that we used to have 6 inbound international flights at the same time, around 5pm... don't forget the OTHER international airlines, and heaven forbid you get an AirTransat A330 or SkyService A310 from Canada from an airport that didn't pre-clear customs!

FLL would work out well as long as USAirways keeps the international arrivals to 2 or 4 per "bank" and have rolling banks throughout the day.

Also, during season, some flights had a 1 hour taxi time to 9L... and we're the closest airline to that runway!!
