Hello all!

I am currently a US Airways ramper, and have customer service experience. I have been with USAIR for 2 years. I just wanted to get some opinions about switching over to NWA. My family lives in DTW so I think it would be a good choice.

I'm basically just fed up with the dog and pony show our CEO has put on, and our union doesn't do JACK to get us a fair contract. I'm tired of it, and I read that negotiations are already taking place with your workgroups.

Are you guys weary of the merger? Will it mean increased benefits? do you have a link to where I can study the company history and catch up?

Are you flexible? I read on the job page that you have to wait 90 days before you can trade or drop. This is ok I guess, but I am in school right now and need Tue and Wed off. Surely I can get nights, no?

I can do the fleet job really well, any comments you guys want to make feel free, as I am listening and greatly appreciate it!

I'll read through some threads in the mean time! Thank you so much!

Not much difference over here at DL143....

Nothing doing currently, other than a card drive to organize DL.

Are you guys weary of the merger?

YES!!!!!

Will it mean increased benefits?

Doubtful... The best outcome for the ramp side would be to have the IAM voted in, and our CBA-as crappy as it is- stay in effect. DL's work rules/benefits are much worse than ours

do you have a link to where I can study the company history and catch up?

Not really anything too good... Hopefully, someone else does???

Here's our union's page. Our CBA is not posted, but if you're interested, the CSA's is. From the homepage, click on "Northwest." Then in the upper right hand corner is a link to it.

Are you flexible? I read on the job page that you have to wait 90 days before you can trade or drop.

Actually, it's 180 days, but a lot of cities let it go. In my city, the "general rule" is 30 days. No idea about PHX, though.

All the open P/T positions listed out there are either 1000 with T/W off or 1900 with T/W. However, that is not always entirely accurate (a night shift with T/W off seems to be a kind of default listing.).

Let's see... what else...

Pay: $9.09/hr. + .10/hr. Line pay. 10 year scale for new hires (after Aug. of '06)

Vacation: None the first year. One week after that until you've completed 4 years.

Hours: can be a minimum of 16 or maximum of 30 weekly. 8 hour shifts on Sat. & Sun., otherwise, a max of 6 payable.

Hope this helps a little bit. If you want any other info, post it here or PM me.

Kev, thank you, that was great! Everything I wanted to know and THEN some.

And these provisions and pay were under your bankruptcy contract?

IAM did better for you guys haha!

iam141.org is where I get my USAIR info if you are curious, as I'm sure you are!

Just to be clear on one thing though: If I wanted to work exclusively on weekends, how would that be arranged? With the company? Or with my co workers.

We can work 16 hour days 7 days a week if we want, we have a computer program setup with our schedule on it.

Oh! Also Kevin, how does training work? Is it every day for 3 weeks or so?

Thanks bro, I think this sounds like a good move for me.

No problem on the info; glad to help!

That depends... Some cities have shifts that are only 2 "8's" on Sat./Sun. Actually, there are literally hundreds of day off patterns... Any trades are worked out with your co-workers.

Offically, you can only be scheduled for a max of 30.... Anything above and beyond that is certainly fine, but that's up to the individual to work out. Only the bigger stations have GSS (our computer program), otherwise, it's all on paper. I don't think PHX has it.

5 days in either DTW or MSP, then another week of OJT in PHX. Since you're already a ramper, the classroom part will be mind numbing for you. Seriously.

Also, I just went to the DL 143 site, and our CBA is now posted. Follow the same link I gave above, and then click on the black square marked "ESSC."

Thanks Kev! If I ever get the ball rolling, I'll invite you to PHX for a round of golf! 🙂

How do you feel about your CBA? All of you for that matter. I don't want to leave the frying-pan and leap into the fire!

ummm..
I may be off base with this answer, but wouldn't one think that in the midst of a merger you may be leaving a frying-pan and leaping into a fire!

The way the industry is today, you will be leaping from one fire to another.

Good Luck on your decision

Thanks! It'd be nice to defrost.

How do you feel about your CBA?

Compared to what our previous one was: It's terrible.

Compared to what the company was pushing for: Not too bad.

Compared to what DL currently has: Light years better.

I assume you're familiar with the US "East" CBA? If so, as you read ours, you'll see a lot of unfortunate parallels. NWA ripped several pages (via Bruce Cohen et al) from the USAir playbook.
