They were not there long after the merger. I was in the TOC at the time they brought them in to strip/paint them (early 1988). I think they sold within the first 3 years after the merger.

I actually find the entire process of changing livery or paint schemes very interesting.

Yes on apr. 1 1987 almost over night the flying W was gone. To be replaced by an assortment of Delta stickers.

I actually like how they are keeping the NW livery intact until a complete paint scheme can be applied
to the fuselage.

Apr 1 1987 is the date
that they were officially merged, not bought.

Looks like DEC31 09 will be another important date,
SOC for DL/NW

so what was the date the last Western aircraft and WAL paint scheme transitioned fully to the DL livery?

I sort of have mixed feelings about this the closer we come to the S.O.C.

it is exciting all the new flying together that will be enabled as a group when we combine but at the same time, it is a little sad to see NW become history.

Word on "the street" is that at this time, this SAN-HNL flight will NOT be flown by the SAN satellite (AFP) base so this could be a new trip for the HNL base.
