I read there is to be new service from SAN to HNL, is this flying that Western had at one time or something
new altogether? Also DTW is getting a nonstop to HNL. While DTW had that route in the past during certain times of the year, it is nice to read they are committed to keeping DTW a viable hub by enhancing those services.

I believe it is to be a A330 for DTW-HNL but I am not sure the aircraft used for SAN-HNL.

They are bringing more work in house and initiating or re-establishing new flying.

Delta's new hub at DTW is a phenomenal facility. For those who have not been through DTW should!
The facility offers great amenities and easy connections in a state of the art terminal.

It is really appreciated not only are they committed to DTW.. but also at the same time focuses on the community by preserving jobs in an area of the country that has been hit hard during the economic crisis.

Thank you in that regard.

Delta is restarting SAN-HNL I think we stopped this service in the early 90's.
I don't think Delta is correct when they stated that this service has been gone
20 years. Time flies lol.. I took this flight home from HNL and it was an L-1011.
This service will restart in June with a 757.
5:45pm departure with an arrival at 8:45pm
HNL-SAN
10:00pm departure with an arrival at 6:50am

Yes, we inherited the ROUTE from Western, Delta put a L1011 on it......

If you look at Travel Net it will tell you what a/c type is being utilized.
no 757-300 at this time.

I found this..however the merger was in 1986? so I dont know if this is new for DAL or a new slot post merger?

What do you mean by SLOT? I don't believe SAN or HNL are Slot controlled airports.
BTW I am pretty sure the Western Merger was in 1987 Apr 1 1987 actually

oh ok, I wasnt sure if is was a DL L1011 at the same time there was apparently a
WAL DC10, so its a L1011 after the DC10.

I was going on that pic that said a new slot

I dont know why I am thinking Winter or December 1986?

Last one left Apr 1989
that is great information.

so, I take it DL had the DC-10 at one time in the fleet in the 1970's and then apparently changed over to L1011.

when the merger occurred with WAL in the late 1980's again acquired DC-10's and then phased them out and utilized L1011.

so..

when did the L1011 leave the DL fleet?

Another good site:

http://l1011.homestead.com/

Last L-1011 "revenue" flight was July 31, 2001

And before you ask, he is the history of the MD11 in Delta's fleet:

http://www.airfleets.net/flottecie/Delta%2...istory-md11.htm

And Delta's first 747:

http://l1011.homestead.com/747.html

"Delta operated a fleet of five 372 seat Boeing 747s (fleet numbers 101-105) in service from 1970 to 1977. Configured with 58 First class seats and 304 Tourist seats, N9896 inaugurated 747 service on October 25, 1970 on the Atlanta-Dallas (Love Field)-Los Angeles route. Other routes included Chicago-Miami, Chicago-Atlanta, Los Angeles-Atlanta, Detroit-Atlanta, Jacksonville-Atlanta and Detroit-Miami. "

I was going to ask about the MD11.. :)

That information and history provided is just great!

What I particularly enjoyed regarding the cabin photos not only the polished and professional Flight Attendants, the vintage uniforms from the 1970's to the L1011 interior photos.. but also the real enthusiasm on the faces of the Delta Flight Attendants, it is more than just a smile.

1987 DC-10
continuation to SLC, but apparently the routing was HNL-SAN-SLC at that time?

http://www.airliners.net/photo/Delta-Air-L...0-10/0483959/L/

then it changed to a L1011

1989 L1011

so how long were the DC-10's in the DL fleet?
They were not there long after the merger. I was in the TOC at the time they brought them in to strip/paint them (early 1988). I think they sold within the first 3 years after the merger.
