Why do you think AA come out with the “newâ€￾ sick policy? Apparently some folks “did not knowâ€￾ that they could not D2 when they were supposed to be at work. Go figure. Here I though that was just common sense. And yet there are still ways around it that abide by the letter of the policy, but violate the intent. Guess that’s job security for the management that everyone hates. Why we keep making more work to justify their existence I will never know.

New?

Years back there was a Crew Chief at JFK who one of the managers was trying to fire for years. The guy called in sick and the manager found out he flew to St Thomas while he was sick.

The manager tried to fire him. At the hearing the Crew Chief revealed that he not only had a house on St Thomas but that it was his primary residence. He asked the Manager "Are you saying that if I'm sick I cant go home?"

The hearing was adjourned.

And your point is what? Crew chief had a house in St Thomas and did nothing wrong? Big whoop.

Garfield,

You have to look at it from a crewmember perspective. Commuting is not enjoyable or fun...it's why I don't do it.

Let's just say that I would love to live in Atlanta, just not enough to commute.

Here is a "for instance", you have the same early am sign-ins, back-to-back.

You are sick for the first 2 day but you will be OK for the 2nd trip.

However, you have to commute to base the night before to make the 2nd trip am sign-in.

You are "technically" flying on a day you should have been working and that is a big fat NO-NO.

So much of what hamstrings AA policy is their own doing.

I have worked on the ground and in the air. The "sick policy while Non-Reving" never affected me on the ground. I do see how it can affect commuters, though.

Open your mind a bit...you're in Crew Scheduling, for chrissakes.

You're not seriously suggesting that AA wants its employees to commute, are you?....

Coop,

I realize this may come as a shock to you but I have no problem with the type of scenario you described. I am fully aware that there are situations that warrant traveling when one is on the sick list.

The only reason I even mentioned the sick list was to point out another instance where we as the pee on employees create a reason (by our own collective irresponsibility) to have one of these over bearing, convoluted, insulting policies just like the Rule 32.

There will always be a few bad apples in the crowd but when it gets to the point that it affects the bottom line as in too many on the sick list, or sexual harassment law suits, then management is forced to come up with something to combat it.

Garfield, That's cool, you recogonize it.

I don't agree with abuse of the sick-list but it can really screw commuters.

Regarding Rule 32, however...I had a lunatic boss that qualified.

He said some pretty hateful things about me that I found out about after I left my management position. I didn't care to press charges, I just wanted out.

He also said some really awful things about others that I witnessed while being his underling.

How he is still in management is beyond me.

He is now 2 levels lower, but still management. He is a form-1 away from the street.

His antagonistic view towards the labor he manages (in MIA...Ha-Ha!) should be his down-fall in the new "love-regime". Where did he get that level 5 laptop...BTW?

MIA runs VERY differently from DFW.

No, I'm not but people will double-commute from Spit Cup, South Carolina on a DL ID-90 (not cockpits, obviously) on 1 leg to get to work.

I barely understand the double-commute on AA to base (i.e. ORF-BOS-STL).

I DO NOT commute. I can't even fathom it since I was an agent.

I have 2 direct flights here and I do not chance it.

Here at DFW there have been quite a few people fired for abusing their Family Leave benefits. A lot of FSC's will use a FML to skip AA work only to go to work at another job. But, for some reason they all get their jobs back with full back pay, one guy even got a letter of apology from AA. They all stated that they had doctor's notes and verification thay they could work other jobs since the other job didn't involve them doing something that kept them from working at AA.  So in other words, if you use a Family Leave day at AA becasue your back hurts or your sinus's are acting up, you can still go to your other job which has you indoors behind a desk not lifting things.  Doesn't seen right.

AA management has made their bed and now they have to lie in it and they don't like it.Here at TUL people were almost pushed into FMLA even for such problems as recurring allergies.AA management themselfs ABUSED [took advantage] of the FMLA policy so it is no wonder the employees found loopholes to use for their advantage. As long as AA management treats its employees like school kids then they will act like school kids.
Distrust of its employees is STILL a problem at AA and is not going away anytime soon.

This Airline is doomed! 🙁

And so are the folks that run it and abuse it.

As per another thread digressing from the original topic what is your thought on Article 32?

Lately, I've seen too many f/a's are verbally and emotionally abusive(includes racism. discrimination and harassment) to other f/a's and some of them, in my opinion, needed to be reported, because it was THAT BAD. I will never report a f/a to the management, but because they know that, so they keep being abusive to others and think that they can walk on water. That's because of people like that, we need article 32, so we can protect ourselves by being abused at work. No one deserves to be treated like that.

Have you or someone else tried talking to the f/a's that are THAT BAD?

 sniffle, sniffle, a tear jerked from my eye reading this thread about someone got their feelings hurt.

Has anyone ever thought of acting or being treated like an adult? There are many reasons that a f/a could not work but would be able to non-rev..broken bone, sprained whatever, obviously ear block, no..I think it is interesting that AA FORCES f/as on industrials to fly into STL(those who are based in STL), even if they live in other states to see Company paid Drs. People with serious back and neck injuries have been required to comply or lose their benefits. Things that make you go hummmmmmmmmm
