Atheism

Finally picked up on that, huh? Well I guess we can't all get to the party on time... The reality is that I tend not to capitalize religions/superstitions or anything else unworthy of special recognition. Look carefully enough and you'll see that I do not start sentences with the word 'god' either.

With that said, Islam and Atheism are worthy in your scholastic view?

No. Islam isn't, (emphasis was added to correct an error, plus if you read the post you'll see that it is quite comparable to christianity and mormonism), and Atheism is merely the lack of fantasy or delusion. Clear?

Now you are being ignorant. Inferring that there was some consistency in your postings is laughable.

Yet you have. Of course, you vowed to never reply to me again either, but here we are.
I am not surprised.

I'm not trying to be thick but I am still not clear on what you are asking?

...LOL

Its not a for profit group? What's wrong with them having nonprofit status?

You are the one who brought it up and said they should not be a non-profit so the burden is on you to say why they should not be one.

Aside from that, they qualify under the rules to be a non-profit and therefore they are. Why do you feel they should not be a non-profit?

501c requirements.

I was agreeing with you. Did you miss that? 😀

On August 27, 1995, Madalyn, Jon, and Robin O'Hair disappeared from the organization's former Austin, Texas headquarters, after extorting over $550,000 from the organization, which has never been returned. Ellen Johnson, a second-generation atheist, assumed control of American Atheists shortly after the disappearance. It was later revealed that the three were abducted, robbed and murdered by an ex-convict and former American Atheists employee, David Waters.

DOH!

After looking the exchange, I realize I made a typo. They are a not for profit group and therefore qualify for on-profit status. If you advocate eliminating non-profit entirely I would agree. If you feel that the atheist organization does not deserve non-profit for some other reason while others do I would like to hear it.

League of Militant Atheists

Excerpt:

The League of Militant Atheists (or The Union of Belligerent Atheists; Russian: Союз воинствующих безбожников); other names include Общество безбожников (Society of the Godless) and Союз безбожников (The Union of the Godless), was a mass volunteer antireligious organization of Soviet workers and others in 1925–1947. It "consisted of Party members, members of the Komsomol youth movement, workers and army veterans".

S.o.G. was an antireligious movement that developed in Soviet Russia under the influence of the ideological and cultural views and policies of the Communist Party.

S.o.G. embraced workers, peasants, students, and intelligentsia. It had its first affiliates at factories, plants, collective farms (kolkhoz), and educational institutions. By the beginning of 1941, S.o.G. had about 3.5 million members of 100 nationalities. It had about 96,000 offices across the country. Guided by Bolshevik principles of antireligious propaganda and party's orders with regards to religion, S.o.G. aimed at fighting religion in all its manifestations and forming scientific mindset among the workers. It popularized atheism and scientific achievements, conducted 'individual work' (a method of sending atheist tutors to meet with individual believers to convince them of atheism, which could be followed up with public harassment if they failed to comply) with religious people, prepared propagandists and atheistic campaigners, published scientific literature and periodicals, organized museums and exhibitions, conducted scientific research in the field of atheism and critics of religion. S.o.G.'s slogan was "Struggle against religion is a struggle for socialism", which was meant to tie in their atheist views with economy, politics, and culture. One of the slogans adopted at the 2nd congress was "Struggle against religion is a struggle for the five year plan!" S.o.G. had vast international connections; it was part of the International of Proletarian Freethinkers and later of the Worldwide Freethinkers Union.

The League was a "nominally independent organization established by the Communist Party to promote atheism." It published newspapers, journals, and other materials that lampooned religion; it sponsored lectures and films; it organized demonstrations and parades; it set up antireligious museums; and it led a concerted effort to persuade Soviet citizens that religious beliefs and practices were "wrong" and harmful, and that good citizens ought to embrace a scientific, atheistic worldview.

History: rinse, wash and repeat.

Saloth Sar (19 May 1925 – 15 April 1998), better known as Pol Pot

Excerpt:

The Khmer Rouge also classified by religion and ethnic group. They banned all religion and dispersed minority groups, forbidding them to speak their languages or to practice their customs. They especially targeted Buddhist monks, Muslims, Christians, Western-educated intellectuals, educated people in general, people who had contact with Western countries or with Vietnam, disabled people, and the ethnic Chinese, Laotians and Vietnamese. Some were put in the S-21 camp for interrogation involving torture in cases where a confession was useful to the government. Many others were summarily executed. Confessions forced at S-21 were extracted from prisoners through such methods as raising prisoners by their arms tied behind and dislocating shoulders, removing toenails with pliers, suffocating a prisoner repeatedly, and skinning a person while alive.
