My thoughts on the CWA letter were absolutely laughable with the Job Opening for csa at LAX for 7?-13? an hour.  One does not live in LA with that kind of money.

Dano I just spoke to an old neighbor of mine who lives in El Segundo CA which is about 10 minutes from LAX. She told me that the studio apartment that I used to live in is now going for $1000.00 a month. These apartments arent anything special, their about 400 sq feet with a murphy bed thats it. What their renting those apartments for is cheap compared to some areas.

I have to say, when I read $13.08 an hour, I thought, wow, that sounds good!
My best friend, who in Sept will reach 17years as a CSR, would be THRILLED to make that!
Remember, its all about CASM!

I've known some very senior CSRs and they quote their pay in the 9 dollar range. Okay, it keeps CASM low but the company shouldn't hold out a carrot that says $13.08. It's unachievable and deceitful on the part of the company.

Very few, if any, AWA CSRs reach $13.08. Lucky if they hit $10. Performance reviews are biased and rigged so there is little payout. Wanna know somethin'? Lean over and listen to me. HP CSRs screwed around in getting representation.

I was not a big union supporter and actually voted no the first two times at US. After the second vote and the company decided to change many things at once, I decided that I could no longer take what the company was going to decide was the best for me on a daily basis and wanted to have the union so at least things couldnt be changed overnight. I am not thrilled with the current contract (I know things needed to change, but dont like some of the provisions personally), but I know its still better than what we would have now without a union.
Regarding performance reviews...We have some people around that definitely should have been shown the door a long time ago and wonder just what they had on their reviews that kept them here. (We havent had a review in about 2 years or more). I know from past experience as well that if you were buds with certain supervisors or went to the managers church you had a better shot of getting a better report than not, no matter what you actually did on the job. IMO, this is why this merit pay vs step pay is a bad deal. Dont get me wrong, I would be more than willing to also have a performance review and think they should be given on a regular basis, but not for something as critical as $.

I got one better ..

Agent=2 yrs sen, and Supervisor, sleeping together, still MARRIED(not to each other) and just left for Fla TOGETHER>

You tell me, and do the math!

Don't forget fundamentals and internet too!

Hold your horses guys. Mr. Parker stated that U employees cannot be making more than us and he can't ask them to take another pay cut--we all took that to mean we would be moving up to the U pay scale. Almost everyone in our office heard it and hear our raise will be coming in Oct.
Don't know about the union situation though---we might have to vote again and this time I'll talk out about suporting our CEO.
Anyway, we just got notice that we are all receiving a $50 bonus next wednesday because of all of our hard work and A14 this summer. Whoopee!!!! Sure beats cheese and cookies!!! That's the kind of man Doug Parker is--good to his employees!!!

Here's the dealio... CEOs of corporations come and go. Doug Parker will not be around forever. He could easily go to bigger money elsewhere. He could be fired or forced to resign if the merger goes to pot. He could decide he has enough money and want to spend more time with the family. He could have a brain hemorrhage and die while sitting on the porcelain throne pinching a loaf. In his place are many Bill Franke's waiting with their resumé in hand. You may wish you had representation when and if a Dark Overlord becomes CEO. I've worked under a Dark Overlord at AWA. He brought the union to our doorstep and introduced us.

Depends on what kind of cheese you are talking about. The stinkier the cheese the better. I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. When I was in the military in Germany, I frequented a disco that once served as a cheese factory where Limburger was made. The disco reeked of Limburger. Guess where this was at? Near the city of Limburg, of course! Cheese is good food. Gotta watch the cholesterol, though. 🙂

I understand exactly of which you speak. I was a big time organizer in Indy with the union and worked really hard for it. Also tried to get involved in Reno, but things were much different here. I now ask==almost every day==from our rep. What is going on with the contract. What are you talking about. Is any headway being made???????? I get a shrug of the shoulder and was told to read the postings on the very skimpy bullentin board. Low and behold there was a meeting report. They could have made copies and put it in our mail boxes--but no on a bullentin board--and guess what--there were 2 postings about previous meetings. The last having been put up the day before for a meeting that took place over a month ago. I ask and ask and don't get any answers. The "vote" for the stewards was done off site at a union hall--guess you know not many showed up to vote==should have been in the office.
There have been no discussions as to what we want as agents. No one sits at a table in the break room and listens to us. It's like they're afraid to say anything and I know this is not so.
You ask why I don't think a union should be here---well, as far as I can see we don't have one anyway==or can't get any information about it.
How I wish Tim Yost was here. He'd get something out of them.

Actually, negotiations are privy only to the negotiators for the union and company. They are not allowed to tell you what is transpiring. Those are the rules. They will eventually form a tentative agreement which will be put up for a vote. If you don't like it - vote no. Then you tell the negotiators what your beef is. Sometimes, a survey will be taken before negotiations start. It's too late for that. In fact, it's too late for any of this. This should have been taken care of years ago but everyone farted around and thought everything would come up roses for AWA CSRs sans union. Anyhoo,to sum it up, they can't talk about negotiations. Rules is rules. -_-

CWA customer service contract says that if our group is merged with another they have to agree to DOH for it to happen. Will the CWA negotiate it away; I don't think they legally can without some kind of vote. Thoughts?

The unions can tell you generalzations of what is going on, it is called negotiations updates, all unions do it.

It is not against the rules to inform your membership of the basics of what is happening.

Funny, ALPA, CWA, AFA, TWU and the IAM gave negotiation updates all during the concessionary negotiations and normal negotiations.

Go look at the web pages, and the IBT give updates of what is going on at HP with the mechanic and related negotiations, even have signed off articles from the contract.

Thanks for the web page--didn't even have that---I know we got updates at U. Also things that were signed off before the contract came out. That's what I was talking about
