No harsh reality, only truth. Without the merger neither of us would have survived. And no news flash for you to know DOH with conditions and restrictions will prevail. I don't know what to believe from Parker lately. He says he had no idea of the DOJ filing looming. He says he does not take a side in our seniority dispute. He says both of us were close to liquidation. He says, after your grievance, that the NIC is not, nor will be our seniority list after the POR. Difficult times. If you need any help in sorting all this out, just watch the USAPA updates. RR

The truth is you are in denial about a certain harsh reality. The rest is your opinion.

Never forget. US Airways was a profitable and successful company for almost 60 years until airplanes flew into buildings 12 years ago . DCA, one of our most profitable hubs was simply shut down. Just like that. Our attempt at a merger with UAL was turned down by the DOJ in 2002 due to antitrust issues. USAPA's fight for DOH and its exit from ALPA eventually resulted in a change to ALPA's merger policy, benefiting in particular the UAL pilots. Having now been blocked from yet another merger, US Airways will continue to thrive with two pilot groups, one based only in PHX. RR

The whole industry suffered losses.

Never forget is correct.

Hmmmm.... Where is that child prodigy anyway- community college night class???

First of all, welcome back. Second, my wife and I enjoyed your profile on the TV show "the biggest loser" last month. We both wish you continued success in your efforts to shed excess baggage. From a mental health aspect, I suggest you don't let your temporary success in the "biggest loser" arena give you false hopes in our current seniority dispute. That issue is years from settlement. Enjoy your new found confidence and enjoy your career advancement in Tempe. By the way, Doug already moved to DFW. RR

True. But air service was restored after about a week nationwide EXCEPT for DCA which remained closed for at least a month (I don't recall the exact length.)

DCA was, and still is, a major source of revenue for US Airways.

The whole industry suffered losses but, financially speaking, US Airways suffered the greatest.

Well said! I think DCA was shut down for as long as 2 or 3 months. I was flying out of IAD at the time and we had just given back the midfield terminal that we had begged for. Just after 911 our station manager was sent in to beg to get those gates back so we could serve the DCA customers through IAD. The airport management just basically said no (more than likely it was hell no) so the company suffered deeply.

All the best,

Bob

Runaway inflation and debt.

If we all could cough up about $53,000, we could take care of the national debt. That's a problem that will catch up with us one day.

Snap,

A good start would be for citizens and government alike to start living on the income they have rather than living on the credit they can get. Sad to say the idea of unlimited credit starts early in life. My daughter works for a university and at the enrollment the credit card companies have a big set up where they all try to get the students hooked. They start them on $500 limit and as soon as they reach that they up the limit. Next thing you know they owe $5,000 or more.

All the best,

Bob

He may be selling timeshares in Sedona for all I know.

Let the Brat know US Airways filed a response today acknowledging the following harsh reality....

Case 1:13-cv-01236-CKK Document 79 Filed 09/10/13

"The harsh reality is that over the last twelve years American lost $10.3 billion and US Airways lost $3.4 billion. US Airways filed for bankruptcy twice during that period and without the merger with America West Airlines would have liquidated."

But you ignore the company when they said that without the merger AWA would have almost certainly filed chp 11, dropped about 15% of your flying, furloughed and downsized. Typical.

This merger helped both companies. Now, tell me again, exactly what was YOUR contribution to this merger?

The entitlement minded West Class is now living the reality of what they brought to the merger. Personally, none of us brought anything. Collectively we saved each other's rear ends. The actual value of the two corporations prior to the merger is hard to quantify, but looking at current separate ops is clear to me where the moneys were and are made. Now that the merger is dead, and they have been denied their windfall, it is apparent PHX will have little to offer going forward. They should be cheering the little scope they have, and thank their stars for our own scope (the scope they would so easily have tossed in the trash to get the Kirby proposal) Just as telling, one of them actually makes light of the fact US Airways closed the LAS crew base for economic reasons, and how that is somehow comparable to DCA shutting down the actual airport due to a terrorist attack. I want to say it one more time, especially today. We were a successful and thriving airline prior to 911, and our employees should not be treated as second class citizens in any merger because of that event. There is a reason the investors put the two airlines together. The reason was to preserve the long running cash flow giant that had always been US Airways for over a half century. RR

I don't even think he is admitting it closed for economic reasons. He mention the effects of 2005, so I guessed he blamed it on the merger, too stupid to even remember the great recession of 2008, the run up in fuel prices and the disaster of the former AWA managements fuel hedging program and auction rate securities purchase.

Las Vegas survived 9/11 but not the disaster of 2005.

When the merger was announced Parker proudly proclaimed that the combined company could be profitable with oil at the unbelievable price of around $55 a barrel. It went to what, $140? LAS was always a marginally profitable hub for you guys, largely operated at night. It was not sustainable at $140 with the merger and certainly wouldn't have been without it.

Uh, selective memory? USAir nearly liquidated in the early 90's. Your entire career has been punctuated by various entities saving you from liquidation. The profits of 1985 have infinitesimally little relevance to today. Just like the number assigned as your, "date of hire"
