AWA employees are awesome! Since I started reading this forum your posts have given my spirits a boost. I need more. I want to hear about the fun times, the people, what you do on trips, how the community service programs go. What you need most in your contract. On the job must haves. Any thing and everything that's made you proud of AWA. I'm old PSA and you remind me of the fun we had. B) Thank you

Well thank you! 🙂

Every year in Feb. at AWA MX and Flight Center I do a tool raffle to rase money for a selected NO-KILL Pet Shelter. With the help of these folks we have never donated less than $2,000 to help the critters.

Cool...of course you do let everyone here know when it starts...Once a year the San Diego Zoo puts on a help the critter fundraiser its awesome. Are you inflight or ground?

At PSA we dressed for Halloween, we had the old pull luggage and turned them into dogs on leash. The company gave out dinner gift certificates to best dressed. On Christmas day we decorated the A/C. That was back in the day when we got Turkeys for TG. Those performance bonuses are cool. What all have you west guys done or recieved.

Well it starts at the top. DP has been an incredible leader of AWA. He has surrounded himself with really good folks. Scott K and Jeff M immediately come to mind. Each workcenter takes on the personality of the supervisor, manager and director to a large extent. I have to say that our department finds ways to have fun at work on a regular basis. Most of us all enjoy food, so we have lots of potlucks during the year. The biggest is Thanksgiving. We have bowling events, crazy golf, picnics, spring training baseball, and Phoenix Suns basketball (most paid for by the cactus club) and more. New hires into our department just can't believe the great working atomosphere we have. Is it rosey in all departments? I can only speak to ours, but I do know there are many other departments run like ours. Most have great attitudes and makes working at AWA something to look forward to when getting up in the morning. Most of us could make more money elsewhere, but if your happy going to work and can pay the bills why change? One of our new hires took at least a 15K a year pay cut to come work with us cause he wasn't happy where he was at. Again, I don't want to paint a picture that every workcenter is this way, or every employee....this is just a snapshot of my workcenter. Working at AWA has been the MOST gratifying job I've had in my 25 working years...and I've had some good ones. I'm really looking forward to sharing what we have in our department with my US counterparts if I'm selected to stay on. If not selected to stay with the company it will be a sad day indeed but life will go on. 😉

To be honest its been a long time since I've felt that joy. The split between managment has been going on for many years. Going to work with your guard up all the time wears on you. As I said before, I'm PSA and we enjoyed our careers then too. Please be very specific when you talk about people ie:who they are and jobs they are in. Also, what's the cactus club? Explain the biggest Thanksgiving in more detail. We at east badly need a sense of belonging that includes fun rather than fight. Thank you for sharing.

I hope your asked to stay on. Good Luck.

That's what I hear... the customer service is second to none on HP. That's the sign of an employee that is appreciated by her company and gives back 110% to keep those customers happy. I hope she's on the board and reads your note Piney. USairways has the makings of a fabulous airline. The east is made up of a great group of customer service minded people who have been beaten down. Hearing first hand stories of how respectful HP treats its employees and how the employees treat the customer is key to changing our outlook and attitudes. Keep sharing...its working!

One of the best things about the US Airways team is that they have put in many years there and have a great deal of experience to bring to the table. I would expect that with all of that experience behind them and a new beginning for them, they should really be able to step up to the plate in terms of customer service and really show everyone how good they really are. I've heard some very very postive feedback on US Airways employees and I speak to many many employees at HP each day and they are very excited about the new team.

Eric, do you mind to tell us what your position is ? If you dont want to put on here pm is ok.
Has to be some kind of upper management....maybe a Supe? Sounds like an interview for rehire is forth coming? AWA is great...when you have the staffing and the equipment...I think the smaller field stations have the potential to have just as much fun but we are short staffed....the "rules" are one big gray area.... sometimes it seems like all the big celebrations only happen in the hubs...yeah...sniff...sniff....we do feel left out...we work our butts off too to make the flight turn as quick as possible...dunno what my point is but...we do try to have fun...

It has been SO nice reading this thread! I was getting so tired of all the negative I couldn't come to the site for a while. I have been with HP for 10 years and been in a few different departments. I can't say that every department was bliss, but I LOVE my job and LOVE HP (well, now the new US)! I've been through some difficult times - ie the pre-Doug years, but rode them out with other HP employees as so many US employees did through their difficult times.

In the past month I have had the opportunity to meet about 30 US agents on the east while working with a project for the merger. The US employees I've met have been equally as friendly and focused on the customer as those HP employees I've had the pleasure of working with. FRIENDLY and HELPFUL ALL THE TIME...if we would all continue to embrace this, we would all truly be in a pollyanna world!
