Birth Control

You are aware that the “Fair Use Doctrine” upheld by the SCOTUS in 2004 granted me the right to use limited portions of Thom Lamberts article without his permission . . . right?

Whatever makes you feel better. 🙄

Plagiarism is what you want to do, knock yourself out.

You are correct dude.

I just hold myself to an academic standard at all times. It prevents me from getting kicked out of graduate school. I can get booted for plaigairizing anywhere. It does not necessarily have to be in one of my research papers or a thesis.

You know what they say, if you do what is right when no one is looking, you can not go wrong. 😉

It is not a violation of any copyright law. Fair Use as upheld by the SCOTUS.

Don't drop out of graduate school, you need the education.

Did I accuse you of copyright infringement?

I called you out when you plagiarized the article. And now you are what they call down in Louisiana, "crawfishing".

Fortunately, a fair use exemption allows you to legally copy small amounts of someone else's work. Just make sure to give the author credit so you won't be guilty of plagiarism!

I guess you gave up on the birth control debate?

OK, so exactly where does the US Government derive it's authority to tell a private insurance company how to craft or market their product offerings?

May the same place that gave them the right to tell a private insurance company that they cannot discriminate based on gender, race or religion?

Which would be where?

My point being is that we are no longer in the 1700's. Times have changed. The COTUS does not cover everything and they got s few things wrong which have been changed.

Actually it covers EVERYTHING. As ir is a statement of Principles as much as it is law. The COTUS is as valid Today as Yesterday unless you're one with a Progressive Socialist Agenda then it presents some "Inconvenient Truths".

Most people don't even know how we got into the health care mess. No surprise it started with Government meddling over half a century and now the Chickens have come home to roost.

From our friends at Wikipedia:

Employers gave workers new untaxed benefits (such as vacation time, pensions and health insurance), which increased real incomes even when wage rates were frozen.

These were the Wage & Price controls initiated under FDR during the war. As usual the Law of unintended consequences in the form of "Work a rounds" in order to give workers the raises they could not get otherwise. Granted it was war timem however basix economic principles don't suspend themselves during war time. The we fast forward to the "Great Society" of LBJ and medicaid/Care and now with part D the Federal Government is the payer of about 50% of the current Health Care bills. Due to low reimbursement rates the government has shifted the burden to private insurance carriers and each worker covered pays more than they should as a result. Yet another example of how a large intrusive government effects each of us in our wallet and is in effect a hidden tax on the middle class.

The straw man argument that people will be turned away and left to die in the streets without Obama Care is at best amusing. Mostly it insults the intelligence of the average human being. We not only got by for over 200 years with out ObamaCare, we created what was the greatest Health Care system on the planet. At least until it was polluted by government regulation.

Thoma Jefferson had some great observations on this cery subject.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Thomas Jefferson

"Was the government to prescribe to us our medicine and diet, our bodies would be in such keeping as our souls are now" Thomas Jefferson

I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive - Thomas Jefferson

Seems "Tommy J." was a pretty smart cookie.

Basic issue here is Obama is forcing a religion to do something they do not support and he has no power to do that BTW.

Issue of Catholics using birth control is upon the body of the church, not the church.

Obama has already done this several times in other venues and does not have the ultimate power, but has anyone attempted to do anything to counter it?

Do you realize for the most part, the Catholic hospitals are self insured?

Does a private club like the Elks have to admit a Black person?

Tell me....what say you?

I would prefer not to go back to the good ole' days when only the well heeled were able to afford medical care. Seems that the unintended consequences were that the health care industry has jacked their prices up to the point where it forces the government to intervene so all people can afford to receive care. Perhaps had they thought of this earlier this would not have happened.

Money and greed are the flavor of the day. I do not want government to run health care but I do want them to regulate it. At one point or another most of us will require the care of a hospital. I see no reason why everyone should not have to contribute to a national insurance plan of some sort. I have no interest in paying for free loaders like we do now. I do not want people who are under insured or do not have any insurance to show up at an emergency room when they could have gone to their primary care physician which would cost everyone less.

As for the COTUS, no it does not cover everything. It does not cover the Coat guard, the Interstate system, it does not cover only certain people being allowed to marry just for starters. It does cover a person being valued at 3/5th of a human. It does cover women not having equal rights.

It is not a perfect document. It is a starting point. Amendments have been made to it. Had changes not been made, only white affluent property owning males would be in charge of anything. Not a time I choose to return to. There are 300 million people in the US. None of them should have to worry about getting sick and being wiped out because of it.

Government regulation ala medicare is one of the biggest burdens on the system and the biggest reason HC costs are through the roof.
Government intervention has dictated Doctors provide services well below actual cost which forces HC to charge you and I more to cover and make up the difference for gov't dictated charges.
Ever look at your bill and look at what the hosp chg'd and what the plan allows? Its not that the hosp is greedy.....its because they are forced to pick up the diff between Medicare low ball charges and what they losing.

Besides, HC isn't an entitlement covered by COTUS.
What of the dude who has state financial minimum auto coverage and gets wiped out financially due to a crash. Same deal.

Well the first paragraph and its straw man argument proves you have no knowledge of what money is, how it and markets work and is EXACTLY backwards as to how markets work.

Want proof? Department of Ed was created under Carter and since that time College tuition costs have sky rocketed.

Since the early 1980's, college prices have been rising steadily, at two to three times the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Since 1980, through this year, after adjusting for inflation, the average tuition of the nation's 4-yr public institutions has increased by nearly 128%. For the private 4-year institutions, tuition prices have increased by over 130%. The College Board reports that private college tuition rose most sharply in the early and mid 1980's, while public tuition increase most in the late 1980's and early 1990's. These trends have continued into the 2000’s.

Time for you to stop Pontificating and start educating yourself as to how massive influxes of Government (Our) Money influences the price you pay for nearly everything. Don't like the price of gas and groceries? Look to QE1 and QE2 from the Fed for causing massive commodity inflation. Another hidden tax on those who work for a living. Throw massive amounts of money at Colleges and watch tuition rise as it has. The primary result of student loans is massive debt for graduates as a result of the very loans and grants offered to them. If there's a pile of essentially "Free" money an industry will figure out how to spend it. Look at all the so called "Green" jobs Obama tried to create with his Crony Capitalist Stimulus? Even with a $7,500 Tax credit, Chevy can't give the Volt away. Why? It's a car specified by bureaucrats and not the free market.

There are precious few really free markets in the USA and that means the rest are "managed" by the government and we see how well that's working for us don't we?

Quickest way to jump start your education is to do an on line search. Type "Broken Window Fallacy"! It's a quick read and once you understand it you can move onto Austrian School Economists like Ludwig von Mises, Peter Schiff and others. here's is helpful link
