Passengers aboard a US Airways flight from New Orleans that just landed in Charlotte have been quarantined after someone on board claimed he had exposed everyone to smallpox, Charlotte/Douglas officials say.
The health department authorized local paramedics to take that person – who US Airways official say was intoxicated – off Flight 1014 to be tested. Meanwhile, under federal guidelines, all 113 passengers must stay put until the threat can be confirmed or proven false.
Medic says it will take up to two hours to complete that test.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the Mecklenburg County Health Department, and US Airways officials are on the scene. From AirStar6, officials in full hazmat suits could be seen walking to and from the plane.
The passenger was transported to Carolinas Medical Center for the test.
