Extensions are out and being placed on unpaid leave is in.

CBS and HUB have details.

it's about time. it's getting rediculous. lose some weight.

this is one way to thin the heard...I need to lose some myself...but I must say I have no problem with J/S belts BUT some of the 75 'A' belts are x-tra small...I think they have the wrong size on some, not all but some ...the company should make sure all belts are the same on all a/c or I smell a BIG no pun intended lawsuite

This has been the policy for years, it just wasn't enforced.
Neither the company nor the union really wanted to deal with it.

I know of an incident last year in CLT where a f/a was passed "A" and the girl who passed the position to her © said she was going to use an extension on the J/S.
The A f/a said "you can't, it changes the integrity of the J/S and FAA won't allow it".
It turned into a huge situation that no one wanted to deal with. A supervisor was called down, the Union was called but ultimately the f/a was removed.
this was a 737.
The "a" f/a got a lot of flack for her stance, which personally I think was wrong (the flack, that is).
Take it up w/ the company; the union, the FAA, even Jenny Craig- but don't take it out on a fellow f/a.

The jumpseats will be located at the training center. If you are sent there for a, I guess it would be called a size test?, and if all turns out well you will be paid for your time, if you do not fit then you will be placed on leave until you do.

So it won't be random seats, but fixed seats.

I don't get what all the hoopla It's always been this way...You're supposed to fit in the J/S and down the aisle. If you can't well you need to be on leave until you can.

IMHO, if you can't fit into a size 2 zip-up dress, you should be put on leave until you can.

I have seen this many times at UAL... They even take up the jumpseat and knock you off which isn't safe. It's about time. Maybe this will push out the ones who need to diet.

This was actually a huge (no pun intended, really  ) issue at AWA a few years ago when our FAA Cabin Safety Inspector discovered that a few of our FAs had been using belt extensions on the jumpseat. The FAA-CSI put a stop to that real fast. Like someone mentioned in a previous post of a past experience, a seat belt extension DOES change the integrity of the jumpseat.

I was on the AFA ASH Committee at the time and learned from the Civil Aeronautical Medical Institute (CAMI) that the belt extensions are only designed to withstand up to 9 Gs of impact force. The harness on the jumpseat is designed for 16 Gs of force. So essentially if anyone was using a belt extension on the JS and there was a severe impact force of more than 9 Gs the extension would literally break away. 😱

Thus we are now required every year to sit in a mock jumpseat (we fonldly refer to it as the "Butt Sizer") and strap ourselves in without the use of any belt extenders in order to attend Recurrent Training. If you can't strap in you are placed on, I believe, unpaid leave until you can. Lawsuits would not apply because it is an FAA Safety of Flight issue.

A 737??? I think a pot belly pig could fit in the harness of a 737. The jumpseat might not be wide enough but the harness is massive!

903, I read (can't remember where... me and my feeble (sp? haha) mind... fitting into the jumpseat is no longer required before Recurrent, nor is that stupid Passport to Recurrent.

Ok not to be mean, but if you need an extension can you fit through a window exit?

If that's the case then it is news to me. I haven't read anything on that but will see if I can find out the 411 on that when I report for my next trip.

Okay, if your thighs are too plentiful for the seat, how the eff do you get down the aisle? Good thing size doesn't matter if you're on the gates. I'd be out of a job, with all this love I got goin on....
