Can anyone confirm US Airways #3 at ORD.

I have reason to believe US Airways is the largest airline at Chicago O'Hare(ORD ONLY) behind AA and UA.

Here are the statistics on an average business day like 1/29.


Airline/Destination(Daily# of flts)

US Airways: PHX(5),LAS(4), PIT(4) PHL(7), CLT (6)
TOTAL: 26. All cities are mainline with planes as big as 321's, except 1 daily E170 to PHL and 2 E170's to PIT.

Northwest Airlines: DTW(9), MSP(10), MEM(3)
TOTAL: 22. All cities mostly mainline with MEM having 1 or 2 Airlinks instead of mainline. Mainline is mostly DC9's with A319's and A320's.

Delta Airlines: ATL(9), JFK(1), SLC(3), CVG(7), LGA(5/ENDING 2/14/2007)

TOTAL: 20/(25 incl LGA which end 2/14/2007). CVG is all Connetion on CRJ's. JFK is 1 CRJ on DL Connection. SLC is 3 mainline MD88's. ATL is MD88's, a 737 variant there and there and some CRJ's/E170's thrown in. LGA is all EMB170's, but again- ends 2/14/2007.

Continental: EWR(9), IAH(9), CLE(8)
Total: 26. CLE is all ERJ-145's. IAH is almost half ERJ-145's and some 737's. EWR is 2 or 3 ERJ-145's and the rest is 737's.

Final Verdict. In terms of # of daily flights available CO is the closest to US. Both have 26. But when you look at the types of aircraft used by US- meaning mainline going as big as 321 from East and 757's from West, US Airways is a clear winner in terms of capacity.

Would anyone else like to comment on this?
 
Being the number 3 carrier with 26 flights a day compared to the hundreds that AA and UA have means relativly nothing..... :blink:
 
As a matter of interest, who is number two in CLT, PHL, and PIT? Are we number one or two in PHX and LAS?

Where do we fall in DCA LGA BOS? We must be one at DCA.

US AIRWAYS is number 3 at ORD in many measurements. NW has scaled back.
US AIRWAYS is also a second class station as far as the IAM contract is concerned.

If you go to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics website, they have market shares for all major airports. The latest data is Nov2005-Oct2006. Unfortunately, it only lists the top 5 carriers (even if they are express/connection) and all the rest are listed as "others".
In CLT, Mesa is listed as the #2 carrier. In PHL, Southwest is #2. Ditto for PIT.
In PHX, US is #1 and Southwest #2. It's reversed in LAS.
In DCA US is 1st followed by AA,DL,NWA,and UA.
In BOS, it's DL,AA,US,J-Blue,and UAL.
LGA is AA,DL,US,UA and then NWA.
Lastly, ORD is listed as UA,AA,A Eagle, Skywest, Mesa, then "others".
 
After AA and UA, if all the other carriers operate between 20 and 26 flights, I see the ranking among them somewhat insignificant when the remaining carriers are operating flights pretty much to their respective hubs and/or focus cities.
