Heard that several mechanics just returned from Cancun today from performing an engine change on a 757 . Any details ?

All I heard was that we are down a 757 the past few days. We ran a 737-400 CLT-CUN today. Also ran a 767 CLT-STT on Tuesday with a 737-400 CLT-SJU. That's would explain the oddities in a/c routings.

they had a rough time of it trying to get the rb211's overhauled....RR wouldn't do it and we had at one time 3 engines unserviceable and awaiting o'haul...they got somebody finally to do them...was a aviation technician school i believe.......

It would be an interesting tea-leaf if they replaced the engine with a G.E. engine now wouldnt it ?

RR, wisely, probably wanted payment up-front. Probably really was a Mexican blacksmith shop that did the work, and cheap too.

Hopefully they sent the 737-400 I was on Monday morning for the 6:15 PBI-CLT-BWI flight. Surprisingly it still had functioning video monitors and had one of those new mesh curtain's on the cabin divider.

GE does not make an engine for the 757.

apparently you are unaware of the GE short runway conversion kit recently available for the 757?

The Aircraft in CUN was 622.

The replacement engine was sent down on a chartered B747 from Atlas Air Cargo

Charter a 747 to send a 10,000lb engine. Wow . . . another cost saving coup by U managers. Let's see . . . . $8k an hour for short notice charter x 8 hours = $64k for transport only.

Maybe it was a bunch of American nationals who crossed border illegally to find work in Mexico.

I would imagine the cost of getting the engine there pales in comparison to the lost revenue and compensation to passengers associated with putting a smaller aircraft on this route - assuming the flights are as full now as they have been recently. What would you have done in this situation?

Too bad a certain Capt was not around and typed in the aircraft.....I'm sure he would have mananged a way to ferry the aircraft out of Cun to save the company some $$$$.

Correct...Lost revenue. I heard it's 100k a day for a 757 and 50-75k a day for 737 or 319.

But on the good side...It's not burning any fuel...!!

Your always gonna run into this type of repair, you beg..borrow and steal to get it done. The road trip motto...!!!
