Change of Control Award

where in the world is JOE DIRT,

haven't got any perspective from him lately., After all he has a LEVEL head. I mean literally he has a LEVEL head

All the CBAs at US Airways contain the same language it was not stolen from ALPA.

Neverthess this is an important point. Should we have some sophisticated
change of control/merger language in our next contract? Of course! Now
here is where I would agree with those who say we shouldn't be greedy.
Just a simple outlook which would protect us against the kind of things we
have been going through here. How 'bout something like a contract becomes
amendable upon a merger or significant COC if said labor group so desires.

BTW I was dumbfounded to read that the arbitrator found that the union
was negligent in not bringing up the COC at the time of the merger. If
there's any precident for that of if just it is assumed to be common practice
I would understand. Was the IAM aware of this at the time of the merger
or did they just drop the ball like we pro COC guys thought the company
had done by not bringing it up themselves.

Anyway it appears the IAM had little faith in their own contract. I've heard
no critisism of the ruling from the IAM. No critique, nothing . Just resignation
and a kind of "I told you so attitude". We're second, third and forth fiddle to
the other labor groups in our own company. and were definately below
united in the pecking order within our union.

I realize my above idea is pie in the sky about the COC language. But assuming
that's true doesn't that say a lot about our union. I don't know who negotiates
for the company but I assume thy're pretty hard core. And what do we have?
Ex-rampers. Not that there's anything wrong with that[like Seinfeld used to say].
During the TWU negotiations our station manager had some responsabilty on the
MGT side. And he was an ex -ramper. But he was well educated and very sharp
and also IMO had a strong sense of right and wrong.

It gets back to the strenth and vision of the IAM. I'd contract some hard core
types to negotiate. How 'bout Mark Fabriani.. former councel to Bill Clinton
in the Monica Lewinsky case and now chief councel for the Chargers. He got
the chargers out of a 20 year contract with smoke and mirrors. That's
the kind of negotiator we need. Anybody want to donnate 5 million dollars. How
'bout you IAM? Thanks BF

"And if I were a US employee, I'm not so sure that I would be looking forward to a UA/US merger. If UA jettisons most of the US flying that does not involve CLT, the shuttle, Europe or the Caribbean, UA won't need the excess planes, ground facilities or employees either. So if you work for US, be very careful what you wish for in terms of airline consolidation -- IMHO, with a UA/US merger, there's a very good chance you won't like the result."

Freedom
be careful what you wish for.. I don't think you have enough time to survive another merger that doesn't include phx as a main hub.
so getting what you want from a merger is a joke You think US east has some old salty dogs. we are young pups compared to some of UA's boys.

sidenote : got the above quote off UA page

So it's either Delta and United or Us Airways and United. Who has less baggage? It will be EXCITING to see the next decade of aviation. Hold on, like one blogger wrote, "It's an ADVENTURE!" Kinda like gambling.

Now with news of the up and coming mergers, will there be more of a press with parker to follow suit? He NEEDS a unified contract from what I gathered before he can merge again, no?

Holy schneikies, if DL were to merge with anybody, there would be a HUGE need for Parker to get us unified. OMG, this seems like a good time for us to get our revenge on Parker. I say we don't vote ANY contract in and let the good airlines merge around and destroy us hahah!

Ouch O-man that hurts. Wheres the love?

First of all I don't like the title of this thread because we(rampers and mechanics) lost. The company won but the IAM did't lose s--t.

I was pretty sure we would win but I really didn't expect to see any of the money. What I was expecting was for the IAM to take the CIC win and trade it for a decent T/A. That is not what I wanted to happen but that is what I was thinking would happen. If we lost I thought we were all pretty much screwed. Anyway its over, done with, lets move on.

I was very suprised to learn that negotiations had been scheduled. This tells me that Parker needs a T/A. The mouthpieces are already spouting off about gloom and doom. I don't buy it for a second. Either represent our best interest and bring back a fair deal or welcome back to my world. The average bag weight is just a little heavier than you might remember.

Whats a fair deal to me?
For starters money!!!
The minimum I will accept is $20 an hour. I feel I am worth more but I'm a realist and I will start there for the next round of negotiations. Be that by merger or contract renewal it will be a good starting point.
Full sick pay.
They are my days, I earned them so let me use them. No hassling from shift managers would be nice but again I'm a realist.
Profit sharing.
Leave my 2007 profit sharing alone. Its my money that has already been earned. Hands off. Future profit sharing can be exchanged for a better hourly rate of pay. Is this why they wanted to try and reach a new agreement? Hammer out a T/A that takes away the 2007 profit sharing. It will be hard to take back once the checks have been written.
Vacation time.
I've been doing this 23 years and I get a lousy 3 weeks paid vacation. I had more vacation time when I first upgraded to full time. Four weeks paid vacation and 2 weeks paid off in exchange for holidays. That was in 1985. My wife gets 4 weeks paid vacation a year plus holidays off after working 8 years with her employer. Then again she does work for a company and a boss that care about their employees. Low turn over, happy employees and very productive employees. Sound like they know what a valuble asset they have in their employees. Guess what? Non-union to boot.

There are other issues but these are the my main concerns. Any new T/A or deal or whatever its called must be fair to all. It will be up to each and everyone to decide for themself what is fair and acceptable for them. There is a positive to come out of this. The distance between east and west just got a little smaller. The passive attitudes that have plagued us in the past are gone and we will be heard from one way or another. I don't like unions. Never have and probably never will.(Father was an ATC) Never have hid that fact. My opinion is its the lessor of two evils. Management or I Am Management. There is no third choice.

Just some of my thoughts and opinions.

Look O-man didn't slur a single word. No alcohol involved.

Here's another view: They'll somehow link the 2007 profit sharing and make
it look like a signing bonus.
When BTW do we get the profit sharing? Is thier any reason that it shouldn't
come this week?

Not sure but I thought we didn't get it last year until sometime around March.

I was wondering the same thing BF do you think that had any thing to do with them scheduling a meeting so soon?

This was a big deal with the first TWU CBA. We a form of profit sharing
and the we went union . The company told us if we went union we'd
lose our profit sharing. No big thing..we were prepared but then they
tried to withhold the previous years profit sharing. It went to court
and FS won but[and it still makes me angry] the TWU put it in the contract.
It appeared to most as a signing bonus but it was reall just money leagally
owed to us and should have had nothing to due with the contract. It's
one of the reasons the CBA passed. I wonder if that CBA would have passed
had they given us our money before the vote. It still makes me very mad.

And that my friend is the death blow to the company. Do you not see this. You need to take what is being offered. Short of that you have no choice. The pressure is on Doug, but he is not too worried, he has other work lined up as do many others. Thing not of the short-term, but the long-term benefits.
