Chaos In Action

I can tell you they are going to lay off 125 csr's in DEN and 7 in SAN. I don't know about other stations. The statement by the comapny is being made.

I would agree that any chaos strike will do nothing but encourage customers to go elsewhere, a thing that ua doesn't need at this time. I don't think employee's really understand how tight the money is right now for the company.

I blame management for not cutting when they should have and for starting another airline within the company spending millions they didn't have. We could be right behind usair if we are not careful. Additionally management has not been truthful with employees.

When USAirwas goes under in January, UA and others will be there to pick up the pieces and market share. Hang in there, it will become financially more stable once US is out of the picture.

People pay for value and an extra $50 is nothing compared to listening to whining flight attendants while they sit on the jump seat and read thier newspaper and talk about how bad life is at UAL.

When we point our finger at someone else, we always point more fingers back at ourselves.

The threat of "CHAOS" or other related work actions by the AFA is about the only card they have to play in this mess. Is anyone really surprised that they're threatening to play it? We're witnessing the castration of organized airline labor these days. Now, I believe a solid case can be made for the fact that if labor and management had worked TOGETHER for the last twenty years with the best interests of their company at heart, we wouldn't be in this mess. But I digress...

It looks like the AFA may be willing to sacrifice US Airways in order to make their point with United. From their standpoint, do they really have all that much to lose? Flight attendants generally are among the lowest paid full-time employees at an airline. And considering the large pay/benefit cuts they're taking with everyone else, at some point, it stops being worth it for many. So from their standpoint, it may be better to draw their line in the sand. Even if the company shuts down, from their perspective, it's a quick, tidy death instead of a long, painful decline. But the end result is the same to them so why not just fight back. If the airline shuts down, so be it. This is a classic example of beating and wearing down your workforce with multiple demands for concessions. United is falling victim to the same thing. We've essentially wasted these last two years in bankruptcy. We're about to enter Round #2 of concessions. Does anyone really believe this will be the last of the pay/benefit cuts? No way. They'll come back again. But at some point, if that point hasn't been reached already, many employees will deem it no longer worth rolling over and they will fight to the death, even if the "death" results in the demise of the airline.

Nobody ever said this was a rational industry!

Yeah, we at U really are a drag on the industry. Getting rid of us will solve all the industries problem, especially American's. Give me a freakin break.

Get a clue UALdriver, Washington does'nt care!!!! Senators like John McCain think that people in the airline industry are compensated WAY to much for what they do. You'll get no sympathy from Congress or the White House. If they cared they would have went to bat for UniTED, USAIR, ATA, FYI, long ago don't you think?

All these companies have made their OWN beds and must lay in them now ALL ALONE. It's about time this industry started to go through the changes that are required to make it a HEALTHY industry AGAIN. If the loss of some major players and reduction of capacity is what it take SO BE IT. I think the folks in Washington are taking the same stance!

since usair is starting to make progress with its unions the pilots and cwa and the twu (all have some sort of agreement) i dont see united with one. alos i see that GE also is lending usair with 140 mill but i dont see ua. i read that ua lost more money than usair did. and that was in just a three month period. what if ua goes under before usair does? then what will you say? I'd say that usair does survive

Yes, and most of the proposals, including AFA's (thus far) and CWA's offer a buyout of some kind. UAL is not EVEN offering that.

As bad as it is at USAir, I think it's much worse at UAL.

At least at USAir they have the decency to offer something to those who want out. UAL, not a chance. The company sucks.

Hey Spacewaitress,

I think that response deserves a coin toss.

I'll take heads.

Go!! 😀

That's probably the technique of choice with our management.

It's heads by the way. You guys win!
