At $36.00 each way it looks like jetblue is setting itself up to lose even more money. What can their management be thinking. Does anyone know the average fare from ORD to New York or Los Angles?:(

For JFK-ORD on 09JAN07 with return on 16JAN, both AA and DL show $178 r-t fare. Currently, those are the only non-stops shown on Orbitz.

Per Orbitz, there is currently no non-stop service ORD-LGB. One-stops--US through PHX, AA through DFW, DL through SLC. Fares around $220 r-t.

I'm sure those $36 fares are loss leaders -- just like those end-aisle displays at the grocery store -- and will be extremely limited and not long-lasting.

LGB will probably command higher RASM on the whole. ORD is going to be tough to get decent yields. Am I correct in assuming that UA and AA can't dump extra capacity onto the market because of slot restrictions? Or can the commuter divisions add unlimited seats, e.g. a bazillion Eagle flights to JFK?

Yes, UA/AA can bring in extra capacity on this route - extra flights no, but extra capacity could come in the form of larger aircraft.
