Jerry Orr is VERY conservative and skeptical where the US Airways hub is concerned. When I first started flying just 22 years ago, there was no D or F concourses and either B or C were only half the size it is today. There was no middle section with a food court...just a temporary walkway that was temporary for a very long time until Orr felt comfortable that US Airways was committed to CLT. He will NEVER EVER make the mistake that PIT made with assuming US Airways would be around.
I am not sure who is in charge of the screens, but regardless, if Tempe cared, they would work harder to change things that seem to need improvement. Look how long it took Tempe to replace the signs on the jetways that were crinkled up and faded. They would never let this happen at PHX. The only complaint I have is that the jetway carpet looks horrible.
The airport has expanded the E concourse, added shops between C and D, has free wifi throughout the airport, will add a 23 gate international terminal, expand and improve the check in and pick up areas, and redo all the short term parking to include that and all rental car companies. The least US Airways can do is flip the bill for their concourses to mirror the quality of PHX.
I have lived in CLT for 5 years. Before that I lived in NYC, SFO, LAX, DCA, and MIA. In each place, I have always put aside my judgments and expectations. I have found that I am responsible for my happiness no matter where I live. Placing judgments on the people of a certain area or place is short sighted. I have found happiness in each city I have lived. Some took longer than others to embrace, but all have proven to be great experiences.
Charlotte is an easy place to live. The weather is great. You are close to mountains and coast. The city is still growing. Uptown is booming and continues to add more entertainment and cultural venues. The cost of living is moderate, and there are folks from all over the country. I lived in NYC for 12 years. After living there, no city in the USA will EVER equal the culture, nightlife, diversity, or skyline. I don't even try to compare and that is what makes me a happy camper.
