CLT to Open New 25 Gate Int. Terminal in 2011

Trump is not building in Charlotte, those plans we're canceled months ago, he did recently say that Charlotte is on his radar about building a mixed use area, but there are no formal plans for Trump to build.

Second whe US moved the FRA flight from CLT to BOS it failed and was moved back to CLT and was and is so sucessful it drove LH to stop their 747 combi flights that went FRA-CLT-IAH, CLT FRA is succesful it was upgraded from a 767 to the 330.

CLT to Europe offers travelrs the option of avoiding ATL and I think Tempe might vn grow CLT to Europe flights in the future
I wouldn't say CLT-BOS failed.. the flight broke even and was marginally profitable in peak season.. planes were short at the time and the build up of trans atlantic was thwarted when AA was awarded the BOS-CDG route. Also at the time construction was needed for terminal B.. ie.. lack of gate and baggage space. Wolfe at the time wanted BOS-FRA/CDG & LHR. Plans were also in the works for a customs facility below terminal B until 911. Under afa contract, BOS is still considered a trans-atlantic domicile. One can only wish!

This thread is old, and I have found absolutely NO mention of any recent progress on this red herring project. Not even in the airport web site pages about expansion, news, advisory committee meeting notes, etc. have any updates.

A smattering of new (or returning) US Airways flights does not warrant a 25 gate terminal. To really compete and not fall into the trap of what PIT did - CLT must not rely solely on USAirways to bring them the intl. air traffic.
well to answer your first statement their have been talks on a new parking deck where the hourly ones are and construction is due to start soon. This will allow the rental car lots to be placed their and the new terminal to begin to be built where the rental cars were.\
for flights
-eventually i see charlotte getting US to lgw/lhr, fra, fco, cdg, dub, man, gig, eze, scl, lima and many other carribean

LH-Muc, maybe fra

Ba-i see coming back with a flight to lhr

Sas-with help of Star if US is still in with flight to Cph

Ana-they have talked about starting clt once getting 787's for star connections

Mexicana-talked about flights a few years back perhaps a flight to mex

Or maybe cutting the last bank of flights on Monday and Tuesday is a sign CLT could get the PIT treartment.

That is how the demise of PIT started.

Look it up.

what are u talking about
Clt is getting HNL and gig

"To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come"

CLT is not going anywhere, its US' largest hub, has numerous Fortune 500 companies in the metro area and is the world's third largest financial center.

US keeps growing CLT, not cutting and CLT has weathered the last bank leaving before, only to come back, its happened numerous times to save money when travel is off peak.

Also to add airports are taking capacity cuts across the nation in this econmy charlotte is perhaps one of the very least hit so far so its no surprise its got hit sometime

I'm going to throw my 2 cents in for what it's worth.

As I have understood the long range plans for Charlotte Douglas is getting it ready and capable to handle the big heavies coming in from the Pacific Rim. And yes...that's going to be a poke at ATL.

We expect and want traffic and trade with China and we want it coming here. I'm not saying US is going to fly it. But we will be an alternative to ATL.

The banks want it and they will get it.

When the 2nd attempted merger with UA, it was going to be a 747 from CLT to NRT I believe, or TYO, not sure, but I do remember it on the boards.

But again, Charlotte (unlike Pittsburgh) has a lot of banking profits to potentially waste on high risk bond issues

Really? Mellon and PNC or BOA and what's left of Wells (and, once that gets assimilated, it won't be much)?

CLT (Orr, really) is criminally insane to be putting money on the line for US at this point.

Not to mention Charlotte is also home to freightliner as well as nearby BMW plant.
