Code Share Partners And Ua's Future...

I dont have specifics for each carrier, but I can tell you from working the counter that there is a significant number of codeshare passengers (at least from TPA) traveling, not only on US, but on UA as well. I have been checking some flights for vacation travel and have noticed that they are showing many codeshare passengers as well. Whats surprising on a great many of these routes is people are willing to do a double connection to travel on UA or US. Its hard to tell how many of these people would have booked on UA or US to begin with in many markets, but there are a lot of places we dont serve that have people now traveling on US/UA vs AA, DL or some other carrier! To a bright future for both of us.

Just a week ago, who would have every expected a code share with an airline in China? Could it be that a code share with Aeroflot is next in line? Perhaps through the Star Alliance?

Back in my pre furlouged UAL days, I had an Air Force job as a Russian escort pilot. Part of that job entailed spending a lot of time on Aeroflot. There are safety issues in that operations that are so severe that I can't believe we would ticket a UAL passenger on them. Maybe in a few years, but their economy is so bad that I doubt the revenue would be there.

For what it's worth, if Aeroflot was to enter an international alliance, I'd imagine it would be SkyTeam by virtue of its warm partnerships with Delta and Air France.

Of course, that may be a good thing since from what I've heard, Aeroflot's service levels do not match those of the other Star Alliance carriers and there are still some safety issues with internal Russian flying.

This is so junior-high that it's hilarious! I don't care a hoot about the mash note, I just find it highly amusing that the rest the board (i.e. the 'uncool' kids) must be on double-secret probation!

As for code-share partners buying each other -- if'n I was a creditor of a BK carrier and got wind they were even contemplating purchasing a competitor before I was made 100% whole, well, I'd pull the plug on something or somebody.
