Computers fail

Looks like it's made the news wires so articles are popping out all over. Wonder if Anthony is regretting his words yet....

"We get to demonstrate that these transitions aren't as big and as difficult as historically has been proclaimed," said Anthony Mule, the airline's senior vice president of customer service.

Wonder if PHil is at home taking it easy today - seems to be a little out of touch:

"We've got every IT guy between North Carolina and Arizona trying to get this fixed,'' Gee said, referring to the carrier's computer maintenance staff. No flights were delayed because of the problem, he added.

And, therein lies the problem. 🙁

Wonder where 'Dougie was today'?

Dougie was probably having a cocktail, just like I am now. Lets hope he remembers to call a cab.

I just came through PHX and there were no lines at PAC and things were actually running smoothly, I was utterly SHOCKED.

With the sheer size of the migration there are bound to be problems the first day, the real question is how an organization responds to those problems. I think the next week or so will be the real test. I am in no way defending the IT department in Tempe because lord knows they are a cluster f*ck!

Lastly, if anyone actually expected this to go smoothly please let me know who your crack dealer is because you gotta be smokin some! Lets see, they f&cked up the website, they f&cked up the employee travel site, they f&cked up the dividen miles accounts, they f&cked up the paychecks .... c'mon the history is there .... we all should have expected something A LOT worse than what is actually happening.....

As I said, the true test will be how they respond to this issue.

As a parting note, I flew with a pax today who said this "I give America West/US a try once every year or two. Ya'all still cannot get a plane anywhere on time but at least this time everyone I have had to deal with has actually been very pleasant." For that he got an extra cocktail for free .... so it pays to be nice to your flight attendant 😀

Problems will be largely confined to East locales.

Also reported in news article 🙄
Other airlines also have had problems. When AirTran Airways upgraded its system last summer, it couldn't check in passengers. Thousands lined up at counters at its Atlanta hub, and as many as 15,000 passengers were delayed or missed flights.

Denver-based Frontier ran into a similar problem the first day it went live with a new system two years ago.

US Airways faces more challenges than its smaller counterparts. For instance, AirTran has one major hub; US Airways has three, in Phoenix, Philadelphia and Charlotte, N.C., plus smaller hubs in Las Vegas and Pittsburgh.

Today has been an absolute disaster at DCA. The computers continally lockup and have to be rebooted. Shares is not accepting the pax counts from the gates/clp isn't helping and the help desk is always busy and is NOT helping. The sabre cutover had its issues but nothing like this backwards system. What exactly has HP ever done that was done well.

I spoke to 5 ticket agents and 4 gate agents in phx....and all said...all of them said it went great, no real problems with east or west flights.

As goes PHX, so goes everywhere - right? At least it explains Gee's comment about no delays.....

PHX was already using Shares.

PHX, no cutover, things are great.

PHL, DCA, BOS, PHL, Cutover, things go in the toilet.

And if you need a tiebreaker LAS, no cutover, things go in the toilet.

PHX was already on shares, but I did expect problems. The HP code went away today, so all of the records had to have HP replaced with US. This can really mess with etickets. I can't imagine what they did to mess up the kiosks on the East side? Shouldn't it have just been a new software load?

Just look at what the Sandcastle has done so far.
1) A second rate res system
2) Reconfigured AC and made them some of the most uncomfortable fleets in the industry. Just ask Phl what they do with the last row of coach on the 330's. they block it because no one other than a midget can fit.
3) Reconfigured the 321's and make a marginal transcon ac , a useless ac for transcon.
4) Reconfigured the 320 and take out all the FC closets and make a resonably good FC service in a non existent one.

Although our version of sabre was the low budget one ( a yugo of sorts). It was light years ahead of this dog.
I have yet to be impressed with any of the decisions other than the OCC choice. We can't keep doing everything on the cheap and expect to maintain our passengers.

Just try and determine ANYTHING from flifo. Another unmitagated disaster. No information other than times. No reason for delays

Manually counting tickets AGAIN!

Groundhog day all over .....
