Continental held merger talks with American

That's the grand illusion that democrats are labor's friend... It is one thing to talk tough but I would like to see Obama (if president) tell corporate America that he is gonna screw their companies but good if they continue to outsource jobs to China, India and Mexico....yes Mexico is still in the game as Hershey is moving its plant there..

I wonder how much $$$$$$$$$$$$$ big business gave to the Obama campaign only to have him "stick" it to them!!!!!!!!!

HEY HOPEFUL  .....I'm "hanging in there"

Vortilan/Hopeful,

As for Barack......................Time will tell.

So vortilan, am I reading you correctly,...........that you support JMc,...and staying in Iraq for(maybe) another !)) YEARS ??

Gotta tell you Bears, I'm liking Obama.
I don't know what Obama would do regarding labor or Iraq because he's pretty much a wild card. I am enjoying the fact that he is putting Hillary out of our misery.

I'm not a big JMc fan, but I do support staying in Iraq and finishing the job.

A pilot on my recent flight who claims to be on the "inside" said AA is looking to take CO's Micronesia operation, and that in order for the merger to go thru, they would need to divest it.

Take it for what it's worth....

If Barack gets in all you can do is hope for change.

That is about it, hope for change because he has no track record of bringing about change. He spouts hope and his groupies clap and cheer. At first I leaned his way, but now he seems to have the faithful drinking cool aid.

Why would we want Air Micronesia, for chrissakes? The two endpoint cities in the system are Honolulu and Manila. And there is not even a non-stop between those two cities. You have to connect in Guam with only a 55 minute window OR spend a 24-hour, 55 minute layover in Guam. OR, you can make a 2 connection trip that takes 3 days by going Honolulu to Nagoya, Japan to Guam to Manila. (And, let's not forget you have to get to Honolulu to start the trip. ) Our passengers don't even like having to change planes at DFW or ORD going from IND to OMA!

This sounds like the same kind of story I heard from one of our pilots while NW was in bankruptcy. He had it on good authority that NW was going to be liquidated by the bankruptcy court and that AA already had signed a deal with the court to buy all of NW's trans-Pacific routes. He also knew for a fact that the deal did not include any NW employees except speaker FAs, as needed, and only the minimum number of planes necessary to fly the routes. The bankruptcy court must have reneged on the deal--the b*st*ards!

I think that the real story is that AMR is waiting to see what the anti-trust guys require the merging airlines (regardless of which combo) to divest. I think that AMR is planning to pick up some juicy route authorities without having to do much other than show up with lots of cash which we can do pretty easily these days.

Having had a good number of layovers in Guam and knowing a bit about how many people are on Saipan and Tinian along with other islands out there, I just cannot imagine AA is drooling to pick up Air Micronesia.

And I like the taste of Blue Bell Rocky Road, but it won't sustain me for very long...

Electing a president is like buying coffee. Some smell and taste better than others, but they're all short-lived stimulents that are just gonna wear off and make you pee in an hour or so

To believe that any of the candidates are going to change the world in four years is just silly.

I saw a newspaper article yesterday comparing Obama's appeal to the youth of America with the Third Reich. Hitler was also a great orator that won people's hearts and mind by promising radical change.... They got change alright...

That is what makes Obama a bit scary, the belief he has that much personal power to change the world.

Grow up already, enough, with the boogie man nonsense.

The topic is merger(s). These merger talks are merely a message to the European carriers, who hold vast amounts of CASH as in Euros, i.e., Air France, and British, that the US carriers are prepared to take merger (poison pill) defenses, if they come shopping too close to them.

Because of airline deregulation's failures, US carriers are like helpless seals on cold slabs of ice, and hungry polar bears abound. Even though the Euros are restricted to 25% voting status with a 49% investment, they plan to force change in the law, or threaten to overturn Open-skies agreement to Europe.

AA, CO & WN don't need to merge with any legacy carrier.

If I was them I would encourage my domestic 'competitors' to merge and thus distracted and weaker. Mergers are value-killers same as our BK codes enabling companies to stick around.

For now I'd play along..... ;)

Well, I'll say he wasn't my first choice. However, given a choice between those socialists: Hillary and B. Hussien Obama, I'll have to take Mac.

As far as Iraq goes, If we were to leave now - complete pullout - there would be complete chaos in the entire region on a scale that could trigger an even larger conflict. I have no illusions about Islamofacism. Ask yourself, who would Osama vote for, if he could vote? Pretty easy to answer that one... Obama!

On top of that, Obama's past is a kind of scary as well. He was educated in a madrassa in Indonesia - I'm not even convinced he is not a Muslim now. The current Afrocentric Chicago church that he is a member of, is a breeding ground of racist hate and the like. Do a little research on this phoney, you will change your mind.

It is a good idea to check your facts before you post.

PolitFact - Obama attended an Indonesian public school

PolitiFact - Obama used a Koran? No, he didn't

PolitiFact - Not a Muslim; not Mohammed

PolitiFact - E-mail slams Obama on religion, race

It's called NRT slots, and contractual routes that Air Mike holds which makes it a valuable asset. Air Mike holds a separate operating certificate, and therefore can be sold separately from the rest of CO, if needed.
