It's official. Inflight VP put out a memo stating that CAL will need approximately 150 new flight attendants by June 2005. Also posted ad for instructors and Inflight Recruiters so it must be moving forward.

A second memo states that all recruiting will be done via Continental.com.

Expect all new flight attendants to be based in EWR. All furloughs will be recalled to EWR as well.

YEA!!!!

 Great news. I am a former TWA f/a on furlough with 19yrs. Your company deserves sooo much credit for preseving jobs. Unlike AMR.

Dumb question, but some of us furloughed from other airlines are wondering(having gone through job loss etc. etc.), if CAL is asking for concessions, why the sudden hiring spree? Is it due to attrition? Several of us at Am. Eagle would like to return to a major and CAL has historically been a nice airline to work for, but we are also afraid of being furloughed again if, God forbid, either we flunk out, or are furloughed shortly after graduation.

I also understand that the CAL fa contract is up for renewal? Is that true? If so, what is the word out there on the line about wha'ts going on?

Any inside info is greatly appreciated.

Our contract became ammendable in Dec 04 and right now the union and company are far apart (natch). We are amazed that the company on the one hand is asking for concessions (with NO snapback provisions) and on the other hand is lookining to hire.Part of it is due to attrition for sure as many reserves are quitting because of the shabby treatment the company is giving them. Also the company is betting that many F/A's on COLA will not return .One reason is that right now F/A's can drop down to zero hrs and still accrue full seniority and benefits.I think the company wants to eliminate this provision in the name of cost cutting and they feel many F/A's who are used to this luxury wont want to return. Also the company doesnt want any new hires to commute so im not sure if theyll restrict pass benefits or something similar or make you sign something swearing to not commute. Right now i think reserve is about 5yrs in Ewr domestic and slightly less in Ewr Intl. P.S i think they are looking for people to be EWR based. P.S.S Cal is a good place to work but is far from perfect. I'd say its the least worst major right now :)

The airline industry is a crap shoot at best. CAL is a great place to work, but if you were to bet me 4 years ago that UA was going to file bankruptcy, I would have bet a years salary that it wouldn't. Needless to say, I don't do the casino thing. If your looking for a job, get on where you can and hope that your sneority will grow enough so that you will never have to suffer the consequences of a furlough. Good Luck.

Is CO hiring for Chinese speakers this time ?
Does CO have Chinese speakers onboard the HKG flight?

I went to the interview when CO first started the HKG route and I did
not get it at that time.CO later on hired the HKG based FAs.

Two of my friends went to the interview last Wednesday and got the
rejection emails.I wonder how many Chinese speakers are with this
company ?

Hello

Anyone here going to the training class ?
I passed the third interview yesterday and they told me that they
really need Mandarin speakers.
I felt so happy yesterday...^_^

With CAL's rejection of the F/A Tentative Agreement, are the new hire classes put on hold?

Doubt it -- sounds like they would want to have some eager strikebreakers on hand desperate for that major airline job, just in case.

Hello

I dont think that the classes are put on hold because they
are having classes everyweek since 02/28 as the 1st class
(if I am correct)and my class starts on 04/11 as the 7th class.

I am so happy.

One question,

The PEK flight starts on 06/15,and comes back to EWR after
arrval. But does CO send FAs to PEK on other airlines a day
or two before the arrival in order to work the flight back ?
I dont think they would deadhead a full crew to work the flight
back after arrival of CO88 ??

Thank you

Wouldn't the FAs have to fly out the day before on another airline? I didn't think that FAs could work a flight just two hours after a 13-14 hour deadhead flight, but I may be mistaken.

They will probably deadhead a crew up to PEK on the innaugaural(at full pay) to position them for the next days flight out. The bad news is that they will probably be given center seats on the 14hr flight
