Here is a little interesting thought...lets say the TA passes(even though my vote is NO) and no one takes the buy out...hmmmmmmm

If it passes, there will be MANY ato agents taking buyouts. Just from the station Im at, almost 1/2 the agents are waiting to get the paperwork to process the buyout application. Im convienced this contract will pass, just because so many people want to leave, and have some cash in hand for all the grief and suffering that has been imposed on us over the years. BTW, regardless of it's passing or not, Im outta here, so I really have no interest in the buyout one way or another. Im not sticking around to collect anything. Good luck to all, regardless.

I e-mailed CWA13302 in Pittsburgh to ask them if this proposed buy-out included the opportunity to collect unemployment. Their answer..."You do not get unemployment if you take the buy-out." Given the fact that I don't trust the company to actually pay out on the proposed buy-out, and also considering that the proposal that the union has negotiated for me would have me making $1.08 per hour less than what I'm making now with the court-imposed 21 percent pay cut and have me giving up one week of vacation and three holidays, my answer is no. The last time the company tried to push a proposal through, they extended the travel benefit period for those on furlough, knowing full well that furloughed members could vote on the contract and that they would push it through. This time, they they are playing the res centers against the airports, the older folks who are ready to get out against the people who actually wanted a career with this proposed buy-out. Why don't I just quit and get another job? I can't afford to quit without the promise of unemployment and education assistance. And, I deserve at least that after my years of dedication. I was and am a worker that any company would consider themselves fortunate to have. I'm not on a level for anything and I show up for work and perform my job with pride. It is sad for me to see what has become of this once proud company because of corporate greed and bad management.

But are you sure they'll pay??? REALLY sure? When Lakefield goes Chapter 7, can the court come back and force employees to return the money?????

Cash in the hand, pal, then you get a resignation. No checks.

You said the people who actually want a career. That is the point, working for Usairways in customer service is NOT a career. There company does not want employees in these departments to make a career out of these jobs. There is NO future in the company in these job capacities. It will only get worse. You sound young, hardworking, and idealistic. GET OUT now, take any buy out they offer. Don't waste your time and years in this deadend company!!!

Vote no...the buyout is less than your unemployment compensation...

See it's all a matter of how you perceive it..............

Does this mean you will be voting NO?

Take the buy-out and wait around for up to fifteen months while the company decides weather or not to grant it - what good does that do? Give me the money now so I can leave and get on with life!

It is sad to be so cynical, but then...we're dealing with the Palace.

Suppose you accept the buy-out, and the Palace says, ok, you're gone in 6 months.

Suppose your station is expressed, or the colmpany goes Chap 7, or something else goes wrong...again, it's Palace-think.

Now what's you're unemployment status?

I cannot put it past the Palace to put in one last screw.

The unions need to do some 'splainin'.

{lease tell me this...If a center closes and you take a furlough, do you still receive severance and unemployment? It seems to me that several agents got 16 weeks severance (at $800/week) plus 26 weeks (min) unemployment at $400-plus a week...that's $12,800 severance plus $10,400-plus unemployment...buyout doesn't look so good...

I've also been hearing some interesting interpretations of the contract going around. (Cant people read?).

These include an agent who was thinking of taking the buyout, who has 180 sick days saying he's going to make out like a bandit with the payout from that at $10/hr. He IS NOT RETIRING and didnt bother to notice that that little bit of info is for retirees to add to their medical. He thought he was going to get a $$$ bonanza.

Someone else thought they would immediately be making $18/hr even though it states right under the chart the 1 step back 2 year freeze.

Someone else who is able to retire was thinking they would be able to get the buyout AND then retire. She called and was told no. One or the other. She has more than 25 years so she would be screwed on her travel bennies because retiring she would get them free AND have benefits on other carriers, but if she takes the buyout its on US only AND she'd have to pay service charges. If you are in this category you might want to call benefits yourself and the CWA to make sure you are being told correctly.

If you arent sure about something DO NOT ASSUME! Ask someone and then ASK AGAIN. Get it in writing or at least ask them where they are getting their info from and then tell them you want it in writing. Dont be caught short because someone "heard" something was true. ASK and dont accept "we dont know". Make benefits or the CWA people get a clarification if there are any parts of the contract/retiring that you are unsure of because they are going to absolve themselves of responsibilty once you've made a decision and its going to be too late at that point to get it corrected no matter how much mis information you were given.

Has anyone in res who is considering voting yes thought about what would happen to their shift if they don't get the buy-out? There is no wording in this contract to prevent management from giving the farmed-out workers in San Salvador or Alabama or wherever daylight shifts with weekends and holidays off while the workers who built this company work evenings, weekends, and holidays? This clause would not have cost the company or the union anything to add. It disturbs me that the CWA could not even get something as simple as this added as a bargaining tool.

The question is is it a BUYOUT or a SEVERENCE package ?

Vote "NO"...UC will be a guarantee...the buy out is a joke! Think before you vote!
