Next year the CSRs will have to start re-neogotiate their contract and I was curios as to what changes, additions, deletions and modifications you would like to see in it.

I am not affiliated with either IBT or CWA nor the company management.

I am just a concerned CSR who also happens to be trying to find out what it takes to get on the re-neogotiation committee. I have asked around my station as to what people would like to see different in the contract and have gotten a fair amount of input (my poor contract is now so full of post-it notes you can hardly read it), and I wondered what about around the rest of the system and this seems like a good place to ask.

I know we won't get everything that we want but till we know what we want we won't know what to ask for, right?

Please, suggestions only - this isn't a management or union bashing thread. I just want to know what you think would make for a better contract.

Thanks!

Without getting into pay and benefit issues, here are two areas of concern: the ACP and the grievance process.

Attendance policy and control was not part of the current contract - which enabled the company to force it on the CSA group. This needs to be addressed. Certainly in case of reasons beyond the employee's control. Getting a point for being rear-ended on the 405 is not fair or reasonable.

The current grievance process gives the company complete control unless a grievance goes to arbitration. The pre-contract grievance process allowed for some, if limited, employee input at the second step of the process. The current one is stacked against the employee.

to answer one of your questions. Unless you are currently involved with your union you won't be on the negotiating committee. As far as you concerns of what you would like to see. I suggest you get with you
buisness Rep for the CWA/IBT. ( I hear they are hard to find). and voice your concerns. But to be honest with you if you want to be more effective YOU will need to get alot of your co-workers onboard . Maybe start a subcommittee in your station and network system wide. You will need the support of CLT / PHL/ PHX since they have the numbers.
It will be interesting to see who is actually running the show . The CWA or the IBT. if its the later DON'T EXPECT TO VOTE on your new contract. thats not how they roll. The make the deal with company and tell you what you get . Good luck

Velvet will be negotiating your contract  Since she is a rez person and basically incompetent, don't hold your breath.

Demand, Demand, and Demand.. she get off her ..you know what and NEGOTIATE FOR US!

You all are so correct with VH. Just don't know why CWA members allow her to still sit in on any negotiations. IAM would have ditched her a long time ago. What a joke.

FOlks, COMMUNICATE with your leaders and not just stewards..Let them know What Serious concerns you have.

Email call , do what ever it takes~

Does anyone know how Velvet got to be head of CWA for US? It's not like anyone actually got to vote. What is her background? I believe she is from res and word is that she has little understanding of what the folks at the airport go through.

When the CWA first came on the property, many airport agents felt they had more in common with ramp than with the res agents. Not that the IAM would have been likely to have the CSA's interests at heart. (sigh)

She was appointed by CWA prez Larry Cohen. Memberships concern about MS Velvet have been brought to King Larrys attention, who tells us, let them eat cake.

By the way, Velvet has a perfect record in the few arbitration cases she has brought against the company. She is 0 for 6.

IS there a way WE CAN REPLACE HEr AND HAVE SOMEONE ELSE DO IT?

Cohen appointed her, only he can remove her. Good old Larry's glad to collect your dues, but he doesn't give a dam about your opinion.

CWA is without a doubt, the most laughed at union at USAirways. They have no fear of us at all.

while I believe the csa group is far better off to have been with with a union than it would be without one, the cwa has disapointed many of its members. What, then, is the answer?
IAM would not have any better. switching unions is risky, the csa group could wind up unrepresented. if it were to switch, who can be trusted? IBT? SEIU? maybe cwa, sans Velvet, could do better.

what about Teamsters?

If that's the only way to dump Velvet, then let the petitions begin.

I don't know about that . Look at the SWA C/S contract best in the industry and they are represented by
the IAM. believe it or not the IAM has some pretty good C/S contracts at Alaska and UA also

IF your work group is serious about switching Give the IAM a chance. We have all new Leadership that
WE VOTED IN because the old regime got to close to the company and stopped listening to the membership
and like I previously posted the IAM does have the best C/S contract in the industry at SWA.
the only down side with the IBT is you don't vote on anything including your Leadership . As you guys saw
on your last T/A the teamsters go in strike a deal with the company and tell you what your getting .

also 1 plus with the IAM is WE HAVE A PENSION.
