Cwa-temp Relief Ask

A few weeks ago, didn't somebody post a Monster.com job posting for customer service positions in an Alabama call center. Do they already have agents trained to do reservation transactions, just waiting for the signal to start?

Negotiations scheduled for Monday...
The CWA local presidents bargaining committee is preparing for three days of bargaining to begin at 1 PM, on Monday, September 27, with US Airways management. The goal of the CWA'ers is to reduce the company's demands for an emergency Bankruptcy Court order to impose devastating wage and benefit cuts, including the proposed 23 percent cut in pay.
Also, the CWA'ers have called on management to detail the non-labor cost savings and cost savings from management and administrative employees, as well as changes to the executive compensation plan that should be a part of the airline's restructuring.

Yes , but then we take the risk of Bronner just pulling the plug on the whole thing if management does'nt get the numbers they are looking for !

No, but they could outsource all the agent work to someone else who already uses Sabre, such as Midwest, ATA, Eagle, AA or Chautauqua.

Devastating??? Now all of the sudden the $13-$14 and hour wage is Devastating?
It was a drop in the bucket when the unfortunate few who went Express had to swallow it, but now the Union is shocked with this low rate of pay for everyone.
Well guess what fellas, what goes around comes around. Now all of those who Voted in favor of the last deal that had no effect on them, will know how the Expressed have been living for the past year. I do have pity on all who will have to work for this rate of pay, but they could have cared less about those they sold down the river to salvage their own butt's last time around. Don't expect much better even if a T/A is reached before the 1113 goes into effect. When the Union reps came to sell the last proposal, they flat out told us they were in Favor of it because they would not have to deal with the Express rates at thier "Golden Hub".
 
Thats very true. Alot of people voted and allowed for such things as mainline express and MidAtlantic. It was OK when it was for someone else... someone junior or in a far off station. Well now its coming for everyone. Once you open the floodgates...

Dear Rick:

As you are aware, on September 12, 2004, US Airways, Inc. and its affiliates (collectively, “US Airways†for the “Companyâ€) filed petitions in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia , Alexandria Division, for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code, 11 U.S.C. § 1101 et seq.

The Company is requesting immediate contract relief as described below in order to stabilize our cash flow during this traditionally slow fall and winter period, in which we are also experiencing high fuel prices and a revenue environment driven by low-cost carrier pricing.

While Section 1113(e) of the Bankruptcy Code permits the Bankruptcy Court to impose interim modifications in these circumstances without bargaining, the Company would prefer to reach a consensual agreement on the immediate cost reductions that are absolutely necessary for the Company’s survival. Accordingly, below please find US Airways’ proposal for such interim relief (the “Section 1113(e) Proposalâ€) for all CWA-represented employees.

Effective Date: Immediately.

Duration: This agreement will expire upon the earlier of the first pay period following: (x) March 31, 2005; or (y) the effective date of a ratified Transformation Plan Letter of Agreement, or (z) the implementation of permanent relief under Section 1113© of the Bankruptcy Code.

Rates of Pay: Base rates of pay for all longevity steps in all classifications (excluding MDA and Mainline Express) will be reduced by twenty-three percent (23%) and frozen at the reduced level.

DCRP: Eliminate employer match contribution. Eliminate current employer base contribution and replace it with a flat 3% employer base contribution.

Minimum Aircraft: The Company’s obligations regarding Minimum Aircraft as set forth in the January 2003 Restructuring Agreement will not apply.

Outsourcing: The Company may outsource any work within the scope of the parties’ basic agreement in order to offset the effects of (a) attrition that exceeds historical norms; or (B) work slow-downs or other service disruptions caused by CWA-represented employees.

Doug McKeen will contact you to discuss this proposal. The Company cannot delay, however, in seeking Bankruptcy Court approval of these interim modifications if we are unable to reach a consensual solution. Accordingly, the Company plans to file for interim relief under Section 1113(e) on September 24, 2004. We will, of course, continue to pursue – and hope we can achieve – a consensual resolution prior to hearing on the motion.
