What is the value of the buyout? Why vote yes? If you vote no , and they do liquidate cant you get the Government to pay for retraining?

Unfortunately even if some people vote yes for the buyout they may have to sit on their fat a$$es (at US of course) waiting for up to 15 months to move on with their lives. I have friends who are wanting the buyout and have already put an offer on a place far away from here. Problem is, if there is a buyout, with the difference in their seniority, one may get to leave in Feb (or as soon as its approved) while the other will probably not get a chance to move on with their life in a timely manner. They will be stuck waiting for the company to let them go. So, there is no way they can have a job lined up since they dont have any idea when the company will be letting them go. I guess once the vote is counted, (if passed) and the company paperwork is done they will have an idea, but that is still months away at the earliest. In the meantime, sit and wait.
We did have a supervisor move on this past week though. 17 years with the company and she walked out the door with nothing for her time here. :down:

Contrary to what some on this board think, unemployment insurance is not a paid vacation. Also, it's only for six months, not a year (in most states). And you have to keep up the "job search" to keep your checks coming. Oh, yeah and COBRA will eat up a good chuck of your unemployment. Bully for for you if you are a twenty-something who thinks that you will never get sick. But most people in this company are well into the age
when they start to have health concerns - or health problems

If you want to get on with life, more power to you!. But there are some some who still like their jobs (if not the past several senior management teams) and just might want to give things a chance.

You might think the proposed contract is awful (and, compared to the "good ole days", it is). But just what is the alternative?

Taking the rather sliim chance the Hon Judge Mitchell will take pity on the poor agent
and make company pay you $22.00/hr again (for TOS pay)?

Going on strike - which would amount to a murder-suicide to the company and you job?

Many in our station have done the same. Left with many years on the table while not willing to give the company any more time. I am one of those. 17 1/2 years. Four others with 17-23 years have done the same in the last month. This company is not to be trusted at all with any promises. Why waste another year of more of your life to wait on a promised buyout? I am telling you they will tax that money as a bonus. $7,000 will turn into $4,000 in a heartbeat. Fly on the bottom of the standby list with service charges to boot? No thank you. I have never been so happy to leave such a mean company. I have always been a good employee. The last day I was told to put my tie on. It was night and what did it matter anyway on my last day? The supervisor walked out without saying goodbye. I gave an honest two week notice and even worked one day on the new time period. Found out today that that my last day was not paid. They said I owed them a vacation day. Not true. I do not know where they came up with that one. I actually worked my last day for free and it was only one day on the payroll. I thought I was doing them a favor. I will not fight it but it was my final lesson that it can be a heartless company. We have all left with just a kick in the rear from the company where many before us with just a few more years left with grand retirement parties and a gold watch. It feels so good not to be working for such a nasty company. Please think carefully before you give another year to this company hoping for a buyout that might not even happen.
 
If you have taken all your vacations for this year, you would owe them for Christmas. Supervisor was advised that she would owe them for this day as well and it would come off her last paycheck.

No. I took that day off of my vacation in November when I knew I was leaving. They said I went into the year minus a vacation day when this was actually an error that I have been trying to resolve for two years. It is quite frankly, inaccurate record keeping in the office as we are a small station. It is just another example of USAirways trying to pick our pockets. It is now my word against their poor record keeping. I have not been called in to verify my attendance record in over a year. Oh well. Good luck to everyone anyway.

I just found out from a CWA union rep that even if the TA gets voted in there is no guarantee the buyout will take place. I was advised it is contingent on all labor groups coming to a voluntary agreement. Isnt it funny in the paperwork that the CWA sends you it doesnt state that, just vote and get your money and leave. You would think after all this time everything would be spelled out extensively. Everyone who has not already voted should really read between the lines!
 
I do believe the CWA Rep that stated the boyout is contingent on all labor groups coming to an agreement, is misinformed. What i think the Rep was referring to, was the early ejection clause, that allows the company to reject the contract due to distress conditions that makes them reduce the size of the fleet, conditions like another terrorist attack, or something unforseen. This type of clause is in ALPA's contract, and i believe similiar language is included in all the recent TA's

So true.

Since leaving the company my stress and anxiety levels have plummeted, my time with my family and friends has dramatically increased, and my sense of health and well being is far improved.

And yes, I left with nothing. No flight benefits, no recall. Nothing.

I have started to look at the sky when I hear an aircraft overhead, and do feel the regret of leaving. When it was good, it was great. And when it was bad, it was unbearable.

I do hope that UAIR makes it, and those that are willing to make the difficult sacrifices now are justly compensated in the future. This is an airline composed of some of the finest men and women I have ever met, and all deserve a secure and prosperous future.

The early rejection clause basically means they can reject the contract whenever the hell they feel like it. Another terrorist attack, bad quarter, high fuel prices, CEO needs another Mercedes, had a bad day again, etc. etc. What a good deal. Hurry up and vote yes - LMAO 😛
