What's new

day one of two day negotiations anybody have a clue whats going on?

If Jimmy Little signs off on a deal,it will be the end of the TWU...

If this situation is anything like UAL's in 2003, and it is. The twu knows they are out and will let the company do what ever it wants. I say good luck to you guys and gals at AA. It's going to get dirty.

The iam knew they were gone, they let UAL close OAK and IND without even a whimper.

I heard tonight that Honda Marina in Miami,FL. Is paying $42/he to assemble boat motors

That's probably true, but then will they have enough jobs to take care of all our displaced AMTs once the dust settles?

This brings to mind AMFA's old battle cry about Auto Mechanics earning more than $100,000 a year. That was also true. Unfortunately, even today there are still only a limited number of such jobs available at Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Aston Martin Dealerships.
The sideboard was to show that other industries are paying more than airline mechanics at all legacy airlines unionized or not. Bob Owens has stated in the past the Utilities in the New York area are compensating beyond what the airline industry does. Why you would bring up the industries such the auto industry in a foreign country, makes me ask what are they paid in full compensation under the European Common Market and can the economic stability of that market maintain such a burden, such as Greece.

I guess they are still not talking about adding holidays? That just amazes me, especially after reading this statement on Q & A's for Management and Support Staff on Jetnet:

And American Airlines management wonders why there is labor tension!
Yes, however it says that no changes are planned. I think we are getting the same treatment????

Take CON ED for instance. Those guys are on strike right now in NYC over, guess what? WAGES AND PENSIONS AND AND HIGHER MEDICAL PREMIUMS.
They want the pension frozen for ALL workers now as newer workers as of their last contract have NO pension. Does it sound familiar?
As far as auto mechanics employed by the highest priced carmakers in the world, try walking into a Ferrari dealership and tell them you are a big shot aircraft mechanic and ask for $100,000 a year with NO FERRARI EXPERIENCE.

They may hire you as a FERRARI car washer and prep guy for a little more than minimum wage. Maybe after 7 years you might make mechanic at entry level pay. Try raising a family and pay a mortgage on that.

What people need to understand is that what is happening to the American worker, namely union person, is spreading from private sector to public sector. Companies control the purse strings, and since we are NOT Europe, there will NOT be any nationwide wok stoppages in this country.

They are locked out, I have a friend who is effected.

Just to clarify a point, I never mentioned Car Dealers in Europe, you did. I was talking about the Auto Mechanics Delle talked about, here in the US.

But yes,,,they are locked out..you are right..

...
But they
Let's see...they "threatened" to strike.........
http://news.yahoo.com/con-ed-workers-threaten-strike-big-apple-faces-185028716--finance.html

So I guess the want NYC residents to feel sorry for them during the hottest days of the year so far??????
The poor babies want sympathy for getting "locked out?"

The bottom line is....it's not just airline workers geeting the screws.

Just to clarify your clarification, it was not me that mentioned the auto industry. I mentioned marine and then stated that another user had mentioned that NY Utilities were accepting A&P mechanic with better compensation.

You talk in riddles man. I made a statement regarding Delle's philosophy about $100,000 salaries for Auto Mechanics and you bring up European Common Market, etc. Anything to take the spotlight off the AMFA and its founder. Pay attention and don't go off the deep end.

So I didn't mention the auto industry you must have.

Do you remember this:

This brings to mind AMFA's old battle cry
How are the negotiations going withe TWU and the company and why would you bring AMFA up?

Well we also make a lot less than our non-union counterparts at Delta, Jet Blue and Fed Ex. before you go citing that Fed Ex is Cargo keep in mind that we used to make more than them.

You should've quoted my ENTIRE post and not take excerpts..This isn't FOX NEWS, you know..
My reference to FedEX and UPS was more about AA having wAAy many times the mechanics that they do. Not about them being cargo so much.

They outsource way more than AA does.
if AA came to you and said, "Bob, we'll give you the $50+ an hour that the UPS mechanics make, but we have to layoff around 6000 mechanics, would you go for it?

Makes me want to throw up! If this happens, why do we even have a Union. Isn't this basically the same thing as non-union, stabbing others in the back for personal gain. Recently, Bell Helicopter and Lockheed went on strike and they did so for all members. At Bell, they even turned down an offer to settle because it did not include building maintenance security(janitors), which was finally settled in their favor. I agree dues for wages is not the way to go but am sick and tired of the people willing to sacrifice others for their sole benefit.

Well if AA did offer us more money for dumping thousands of jobs then that would be a valid argument. Lets stick to current facts. AA is not offering us more money, they are asking (demanding) for more concessions and still want to dump thousands of jobs. I like to think of the what ifs but we need to focus on how the company is going to have their way with the TWU.

Yes in fact I would "go for it"...

I've been here almost 30 years and know first hand how incredibly inefficient AA MTC is.. You can easily lay off 30% and the operation would not skip a beat.. It's a joke.. Anyone I talked to agrees that trading jobs for productivity is the path for AMT's to take to achieve respect and wage.. The TWU's primary source of income is headcount, not industry leading wages. So until the TWU is out, Keep you low wage and watch all the movies you want from Red Box..
