Why is AA throwing money into an old DC-3 that has been at AFW since the "SKYBALL"? They want us mechanics to work on it for free. I have been told this particular airplane is owned by three AA captains. If these captains can afford to own and fly a DC-3, then they can afford to pay for the mechanics to repair it. If this piece of junk crashes and kills some people, who is gonna get stuck with the liability?

For the same reason you have AMT's spending money to worship the bust of Charles Taylor as though he invented the modern wrench?...

The DC-3 was our first workhorse. Someday, I'm sure you'll see someone renovating a 727 or MD80 to fly as a showpiece.

If you don't want to work on it, then don't.

Maybe we should just open an antique aircraft renovation facility.

Instead of funding overpaid management to enjoy paralysis by analysis compounded with flying humans around the globe at a loss, we would actually enjoy our jobs again and make a profit.

FM, not quite the same management boy. The DC-3 represents a major concessionAAry airline that can't run its business properly, and the wealthy boys plAAy toys.

Charles Taylor represents the long oppressed career field that has received minimal recognition.

That DC-3 can rot into the ground, and nobody I know would cAAre. 😉

<_< No Mr. "Former ModerAAtor"! Charles Taylor didn't invent the modern wrench!! He only put the "power" in the first "powered flight!!!"

I used to love working on DC3s, and would probably enjoy doing it again, but I'll be danged if I will do it for free for three captains. Should I shine their boots and wax their cars, too?

Get your maintenance for nothing and your mechanics for free. That's what aircraft owners want and expect. Aircraft owners will spend millions to purchase an airplane and then expect "us" mechanics to work on it for them for peanuts.

<_< That's pretty much what we said here at MCI! We'll be darned if we'll work on an old peace of junk in aa colors for nothing! But we did! Manufactured all your seats! Did the interior! Could have finished the job too, but that way the boys in TUL wouldn't have gottened all the credit!!!We even sent one of our Charles Taylor recepiants along to tell all you good ol boys how to do the job!! So enjoy!!! 😛

I would do some work on it just to say I did. The DC-3 was a kickass plane. I would rather see such an aircraft restored than see it stuck out in conglomeration of junk out there in Arizona or chopped up for Hackmans and DEAD BIRDS next six-pack.

<_< Hey Mr.Former Moderator!---- Do you know what a "Charles Taylor Award" is????? It's a FAA award give to AMT's with Fifty years aircraft experiance! Yes, I said 50 years!!! Not only do you have to have the time, you have to be recomended for the award by someone in the FAA!!!! We have had six so far from MCI!!!! Two of which are still working for aa!!!! 😉

Sorry 'Cods, we don't allow would be mechanics that can't follow maintenance manuals to work on our aircraft. Maybe if it is ever scraped they could use it to make an aluminum toilet and sink in your scab prison cell after the FAA gets done with you. 😛h34r:  😛h34r:

"Worship" is the wrong word fm. The WORDS are remember & respect someone who is a big part that there is even a DC-3 to renovate.

Anyone remember the Stinson Trimotor, beginning with Century Airlines (which became part of AA)? It was the workhorse that the DC 3 replaced in 38 or 39. At least one example was used way later than the Gooney Bird by AA. It was used for air navigation checks into the fifties or sixties, I believe. (Check with Flip Cambre on that) Only one survives today, but it is painted in AA livery and can be seen at air shows.
