Deal or No Deal Mentality Strikes Again!

Luv2fly,

GEE, I've guess I've given you MORE(longivity) credit for being around the Industry, than you actually have.

Otherwise, ...YOU...."might" have remembered that NW was flying 747's and DC-10(40's) to places like ...PIK/GLA/LGW/FRA/ORY/CPH/OSL/ARN/BOM/FCO, out of places like MSP/JFK/BOS !!!!

But your correct that NW isn't flying 767's from JFK to places like "BELARUS", or "EAST TIMOR"

It was after the "hook up"(THE VERY FIRST ONE in the Industry) w/KLM that they stopped flying the atlantic, because they were making a TON of $$$$$$$$$$ !!

But I'm sure....Even YOU would agree, that NW could "crank up" those cities again, if it had to.

I hate to break it to you.."Luv2", but when it comes to Global Reach "TODAY" for US carriers, the "pecking order" goes like this

UAL
CO
NW
AA

and "bringing up the REAR"

DL
US

It IS what it IS...Luv2 !

ps,

Heard anything about DL...flying JFK to the "FAROE ISLANDS" anytime soon ?
(I always wanted to go there)

And I guess I've given you too much credit as well. The problem with your logic Bear is that you base it on nostalgia. I am afraid that it is you who is out of the know having been removed from the industry with your retirement. You are living in the past.
I have given you facts to support my case and you have given opinions. You know what they say about opinions don't you NHBB? I guess that just really proves you are what you preach. As you said, it is what it is.

Based on????? your THINKING? or do you have facts to back this obsurd statement?
Delta is the only airline in the world to serve over 300 destinations--310 in total-fact

NH--you may want to update your calendar. It's 2008 now, not 1985. I think some of your statements are rooted in the past. Global reach means more than flying to the most crowded, overly-saturated markets. The world is growing and changing....look around. Finally, 747s are fantastic int'l a/c, but in and of themselves do not make for a successful Int'l airline. I want my company to thrive (hence why I'm working--I can go to aviation museums on my day off), not just be rooted in the nostalgia of what was and what, by some definitions, an Int'l airline is "supposed to be."

"Interesting" point you make "wrench"........................."5" carriers to "possibly" Dominate.

AA could do it with just "2"..................................BA + JAL , and UNDISPUTABLY Dominate

NHBB, I have read many of your posts in the past and most are accurate. With that said what "5" carriers are you talking about. KLM is a wholly owned by Air France, as will Alitalia when that deal goes thru. In effect Air France/KLM & Alitalia are one company. If/When DL/NW merge they will eventually be one carrier. Thus the link up between DL and Air France will have incredible reach with just 2 companies.

No Doubt an AA/BA partnership would be just as impressive but the fact is they have not inked a deal like the Delta Air France agreement yet.

P.S. AA plus BA + JAL = 3 not 2. 😉

"wrench",

If it plays out that way, you will be CORRECT.

Though I can't spek for you, I'll be willing to bet, that(like me) you may feel that this "thing" is(NOW) DOA !

BABABOOY,

Looking at a route map of both airlines TODAY, I dee DL flys the furthest east to India(Ditto for NW)

DL flys the futher west to NRT(NW to Singapore, or something futher than NRT)
And thats "ONE" DL flight to NRT daily !!

sorry, but does NWA fly to Africa? South America? or how about the middle east?

AGAIN, Delta is the only airline in the world to serve over 300 destinations--310 in total-fact

C'mon, you mean the world is not just the Pacific??

Bummer!!!!

Well BABABOOY,......about all i can say, at this point....is good luck(to you) and DL.

To whatever heights they may climb, will be done WITHOUT NW, cause Anderson's little "trap" that he laid for NW(with STEENLANDS help) appears now to be...D O A !

And as far as Africa is concerned, I don't doubt for a second that DL will to first...into SOMALIA

Speaking about Africa, don't you ever wonder why DL is the ONLY SMART airline to go into Africa, as opposed to other "Dumb" companys like AA UA NW + CO ????????

(Maybe its a side effect of that ATLANTA KOOL AID) :eye:  !! (Whatever) !

You're right, who needs an aging fleet with a discruntled work force.
Oh BTW, that other guy winking at you is none other than your pal Steenland!

Apparently Delta does:

As for the workforce...let's just say we know how to fight. We EARNED the safety of NWA's balance sheet, and we are not about to give it away for the well being of some other company. You think we are disgruntled now? Wait till some delusional group think they will get anything other than DOH from this rank and file. You will learn a whole new definition of disgruntled.

I can only speak for Northwest...upon the arrival of the initial 18 787's, then a total of 68. Northwest's reach will circumvent this planet. We've been in the long haul business for a long time. NW likes to do things long term. Middle East X, Africa X, Austrailia X, S.A. X. and finally, a even more massive blanket over Asia as in SEA-Mumbai.

They start arriving 1st quarter next year.
