December Attrition

I relied on a friend to tell me the proffer numbers. After working a trip and seeing my HI6's, the proffer was actually for 125 non-speakers and 30 speakers. 155 total. Seems like too many to me for one trip. I know it is high time, but still. They are going to need another one for May as well. Plus I would be REALLY surprised if they get anything close to 30 Mandarin speakers.

The Mandarin speakers are all super junior. I just had one on my trip the other day and he was from class 2001-04! I don't think we even have 30 in the system.

Don't forget we have another proffer for JFK in the early Spring 06'. This is to be one of the largest ever seen for INTL.

AFAIK, there ain't many at all ACTIVE. However, there were quite a few that were in the 960+- that are below the former TW f/as.

In addition, I would not be surprised to find out that there are more than enough CM speakers among the former TW f/as. TW used to have a base in Hong Kong.

Jim, Hong Kong was a FN base. As were Paris and Rome.

Seniority trivia for a Saturday morning...

There are new seniority numbers in Sabre this morning (or may have been yesterday when they were posted).

My seniority number is now 18195, a drop of 120 since the last time they posted new numbers (November, I think). I can only go back to January of last year in E-Pays, but my seniority on my January, 2005 HI1 was 19230. That is a drop of 1035 in one year. That's 150 more than the "official" attrition of 885.

As always Jim, very thankful for all the info. I'm however deeply concerned about the current practice for 2 speakers per flight on the JFK-NRT. Anyone familiar with this route, please correct me.I'm getting it from current Chinese speakers in JFK who took up Japanese to fly the NRT trips and honestly, as someone who grew up in Asia, I'm telling you, having only 2 Mandarin speakers on the 777 isn't practical. So far, 5 of the Chinese speakers in JFK do not want to go to ORD.It's far easier to commute to the west coast from JFK.Mandarin is the official langauge but anyone who has visited China or lived in Asia will tell you that the older generation also speak numerous dialects, many of whom will be buying Coach tickets and will need assistance. You need 3 per flight. So, that's six for a to and fro per day.
Anyone know where we can find the updated recall list?
Thanks
Anxiously waiting at number 77.
ps.there are 5 official Chinese speakers in my class.

I keep hearing about the "largest ever" proffer at JFK. Where are you getting your info?

I have my name in for the IOR proffer and will take it out if we are really going to get new JFK routes anytime soon.

As it is, JFK flying is the worst it has ever been. Our lines and bid sheet stink.

I think I will leave the proffer in anyway. It might be fun to check out a new base for a few months...if I could even hold the proffer.

Let me show you my Home Depot schedule some day. Yesterday they called me five minutes before I left home and told me not to bother to come in; they were expecting a slow day. I lost the whole day's pay with no chance of making it up.

Hmmm... sounds a lot like the danger of answering your phone when you're on the last day of a trip and legal for reassignment!...

I'd call regional HR or the support center in ATL. I can't imagine that going over very well, especially if you were on the schedule. Then again, at my store we always had people (mostly the high school kids) who were willing to go home...

I was under the impression that after March 06, we will be going back to the previous staffing levels for speakers on international flights.....3 on a 777, two on a 767, 1 on 757/737

I think this was in last weeks hotline.

I just looked at my HI8 and my seniority number is still the same as it has been for months In fact, it went up one number...... when did this shuffle happen?

I noticed the shuffle on Thursday morning when I was signing in for KIX. Everyone dropped some numbers b/c a friend of mine that was #99 dropped to #96!! I dropped about 80 numbers.

Actually, I noticed it at the top of my HI1 on Saturday morning. Flight Service website number still not updated, but it is usually at least one day behind the number in DECS.

Here is the breakdown on the December attrition.

43 Domestic
21 International
64 Total (You go, MK!)

Of the 64, 26 were retirements. Here's an interesting piece of info. It's amazing what you can do with the numbers.

The average seniority of those that left in December was 23 years--a little higher than usual. However, the average seniority of those that RETIRED is 34 years! so for the average to be pulled down to 23 years for the entire attrition means that there were some really junior people leaving in December.

Just FYI, 4 of the 26 retirees had 41 years and all but 2 or 3 had over 30 years.

Yes, it does. Sometimes people show up and are sent home, or show up, work an hour or so and are then sent home.
I'd call regional HR or the support center in ATL. I can't imagine that going over very well, especially if you were on the schedule.
No sense in making a big deal over what is published company policy. Full timers are guaranteed their hours, but part timers have to be flexible. On the flip side, they're very flexible with me. That's why I'm working there; the ability to be home during the day to watch the kids.

I didn't really mean to jump all over Skymess for compaining about the bids. I recall doing the same thing. Back in 1974 I complained bitterly about only being able to hold London and Paris. Sometimes it helps to consider the alternatives.

No worries. I've been furloughed twice in my career. Both times by the same airline. My career has certainly not been as long as yours. Hopefully the call backs will come soon. 😉
