Delta announces huge JFK int'l expansion...

All this new DElta service to the Middle EASt is great, but why a noon takeoff from Amman back to JFK?

Did I misunderstand the recent FAA request? I thought they were asking the airlines to voluntarily cutback their International schedules at JFK and EWR before mandatory cuts were imposed. I realize this request applied to next summer, but is the answer to dramatically increase schedules now?

AA better get its butt in gear. They are being eclipsed at JFK by Delta. I am amazed Delta still has more wide bodies to take on all these new flights.

And Delta issued a press release trumpeting its compliance with the FAA request. 😀

Only good thing to come out of it was Delta's promise that it would use larger jets on some of its JFK routes and would discontinue all turboprop operations at JFK. Other than that, more and more flights. Just like jetBlue.

Me, too. Still, if AA had used as many widebodies on DFW-Florida, DFW-LAX/SFO/LGA as Delta did up until a couple years ago, AA would have lots of widebodies available for expansion just like DL.

Delta has 83 763s (and 24 of those are non-ERs), 21 764s and 8 777s and too many of them were flying hourly shuttles from ATL to domestic destinations mentioned above.

In contrast, AA has 58 763s, 15 762s, 34 A300s and 47 777s and none of them are dedicated to domestic flying (other than Hawaii). Compared to AA, Delta just discovered international flying. And nearly every Delta foreign destination is either open-skies or easily-obtained authority. One daily flight to NRT, and some JFK-LGW flights for which DL paid UA dearly. And in a few months, the LGW flights are open-skies.

Not entirely correct, the 762's are basically anchored to the JFK-LAX/SFO rotation. You will see a 762 subbed in when necessary on other routes, but for the most part they are domestic only birds.

D'Oh! Meant to delete those. That's what I get for posting while concentrating on other things. 😱

While the domestic widebodies are part of it, DL is also picking up 15 orphaned ex-TWA 757's that AA didn't want. If it wasn't for those 757's, DL wouldn't be able to launch all these routes next year. DL also has 8 777-200LR's being delivered in 2008-09.

DL is still largely staying on the FAA's good side since they are spreading the flights out more at JFK. Next summer, DL will have 3 banks of transatlantic flights (versus two this summer). I think DL knows that eventually the FAA is going to place a cap on growth at JFK, so DL is pushing hard to get all their flights in place now.

AA could be at a real disadvantage if they don't get more flight in place at JFK soon. If AA waits till 2010, the FAA may have capped the airport which will make it tough for AA to grow at JFK.

God, what a kool-aid drinker. Everytime a post says anything remotely positive about another airline or slightly negative about AA, you're all "but, but,..". Give it a rest. AA is not the end-all, nor be-all. As much as I lOVE Delta, I'm the first to admit they do alot of kooky things. If only my ex, who's flown for AA for 14 years, cared half as much as you for AA, he might actually smile at a passenger once in a while. He told me he doesn't have to, because AA "raped" him. Guess not everybody there is as thrilled with them as you are.

Congratulations, you have met the cheerleading "duet".... They can never be happy for anyone else and are constantly envious 😱 They can't stand it that DAL is going to expand way beyond AA in JFK and they are envious... Thats it... Plain and simple, and its obvious.

Trust me, I have met plenty of grim Delta fliight attendants, too. 😛
