At first this seems a little crazy but hear me out. Delta , United and American get together and buy USair. AMR gets PHX, UAL gets CLT, DAL gets 70% of PHL ( because PHL is the crown jewel of USair they only get 70% but feel free to chim in if you disagree) DCA slots would be evenly divided in 3rds. The seniority would be divided evenly as possible ,so no airline would be stuck with all the high timers. I'm sure Parker could be bought off with a case of WHISKEY and a couple million.

Its the one option on one at "u" wants to think is possible. But far more likely than any other of the scenarios offered so far. Delta get together with several other carriers and offer each a piece of the pie, and if done right keeps very little for themselves and make a nice little profit for trouble.

I can imagine several possibilities all involving many smaller carriers. AA neither needs or wants PHX, but a shuttle or some DCA would be nice. SWA might like some PHX, or PHL. If I was delta and had SWA about to eat my lunch on fares in my strong hold, I would be very gracious in giving them some else to swallow in the mean time.

Alaska, spirit, frontier, Alliegent, suncountry, jetblue, virgin ect anyone might have an intrest or need.

Why does AMR want PHX? Its a low yielding WN town.
Why would Delta want PHL? they are the largest carrier at both JFK and LGA and 2nd largest in NYC. NYC has higher yields and more O&D than PHL.

the only thing anyone really wants from US is CLT(only UA and AA) and the DCA slots. The rest overlaps with networks from other airlines. 😉

PHL is the largest metro area in the country with just one airport. While it's O&D is not as high as NYC, the airport stands on its own and doesn't compete with JFK, except for possibly NJ residents who live right on the edge between PHL and NYC (in which case I'd go to EWR, not JFK).

Delta is looking towards emerging markets and Latin America. USAirways doesn't fit that. PHL is neither. Plus Delta
has it's hands full with LGA and JFK.
Delta has no interest in USAirways. What you read is just Delta screwing with AA.

It may be the largest metro area - I'm too lazy to look up the numbers - but it isn't the largest by O&D traffic. LAS/ATL/DEN/PHX/BOS/SEA/FLL/BWI all have more O&D traffic and that's leaving out one or two that have 1 primary airport like MCO. PHL doesn't compete with JFK because both are hubs for different airlines. You might as well say CLT doesn't compete with ATL - US flyers don't drive to ATL from CLT and DL fliers don't drive to CLT from ATL. But if one airline has hubs in both they begin competing for that airline's traffic, resulting in both being weaker than either would be by itself.

This is a joke right? Because it's all crazy.
I agree any merger with usair is crazy. But the fact still remains that DP will sell his soul to get a merger done . So why is it any more crazy than DAL ,Lcc or AMR, Lcc by themselves?

If you live in a cave and didn't hear it is AA that's bankrupt and broke not US. AA isn't buying a damn thing they are actually closing maintenance bases and shrinking line stations. AA is the whore.
