My mistake I forgot you qualify everything to make your point, and put Delta in the best possible light.
When you said Delta has never run from a hub I wrongly assumed you were saying Delta never ran from a hub. When what you were doing was trying to say was, why yes Delta has run from a hub before, just not in the small context you created to paint Delta in the best possible light.
Mikey,
I have no problem with admitting I am wrong... but you also are trying desperately to distort what I said in an attempt to make me look bad. Since you cut out part of the sentence I wrote which contained the qualifiers I inserted, let me cut and paste the entire PARAGRAPH so that you and the world can see what I actually wrote.
History shows that DL has never given up a hub other than MCO if you call it a DL hub (DL did at one time) to a low cost carrier… to a low cost carrier - yet DL is still the largest network carrier in Florida. In SLC, DL and WN have maintained the same market share for years and WN has about the same domestic market share in SLC that FL has had in ATL.
The qualifier "low cost carrier" was apparently so significant that I repeated it....
Given that the context of the conversation is about a low cost carrier and DL, it is perfectly plausible to focus the discussion on low cost carriers... nor did I attempt to say that any comparison wasn't valid for either DL or another airline. UA used to have at least a mini-hub or focus city in CLE but gave it up. AA and DL each had decent sized presences at both ORD and CVG; AA gave up CVG and DL gave up ORD and has subsequently further reduced CVG in favor of DTW, where I believe AA used to be alot stronger than it is now... while DL's DFW hub was one of the larger network closures since deregulation, it was certainly not the only one. And DL made it clear that it was closing DFW in order to focus on NYC where it has surpassed AA, esp. at JFK where NW had a very limited presence at the time of the DL-NW merger.
.
As you well know, each of the network carriers have slowly pulled down a number of focus cities and hubs as they have built up other hubs. E made the statement in the past couple weeks when I raised the issue of how AA has managed to close FIVE hubs since deregulation that AA closed at least two hubs to focus on MIA which has been the single most successful hub buildup in AA's history. I can agree with that part... I just don't buy that it took pulling down five hubs in order to allow AA to grow MIA... essentially returning AA to the same domestic network structure it had shortly after deregulation.
.
So, yes, DL pulled down DFW but not only was the qualification I made clear in the ENTIRE sentence I wrote but also in the logic and context of the topic which was being discussed.
.
I appreciate your interest in the top of WN and DL at ATL and welcome any other comments you have that could extend to network vs. low fare carrier competition....
