Got to hand it to ..."Slick Dick" Anderson on this one.

Fly AA,...you pay $15 for the first,..then $25 for the second.....total = $40
Fly DL....you pay $00 for the first...then "$50" for the second..total = $50

Net gain = $10 !

Anderson should give that cubical guy a nice promotion(SERIOUSLY) !!

I wonder how many replies there would have been to this thread if US had done this?

In that case, your post would have been on page 7 instead of page 1.

I prefer AA's method, since everyone who checks a bag (unless they have status or are sitting in F or J) will pay, and I'm a fan of passengers paying for the costs they impose on the airline.

At Delta, those who don't check a bag at all will still subsidize those who check one bag - only someone who checks two bags will pay anything (unless they meet Delta's exceptions like status or F or J travel).

I guess it is how you look at it.The goal is to switch out free bags on the aircraft and replace the free 50 pds. with 50 pds of cargo. The down side is that the pass. makes a choice on what they need to carry. It is up to that pass. a few shirts or $50.00. Its a win for DAL $50.00 for the bag (more revenue )..lighter aircraft = less fuel ( more revenue)..or 50 pds. of cargo (more revenue).

I have over 500K miles on Deta and since I am gold or plat depending on the year - most of these doesn't affect me. However, when I used to pay more and search out Delta flights...no more...the FF program is a joke...trying getting a flight other than at 6AM....first class is not much better than an exit row....The value of airline loyalty is vanishing. I am flying more and more on southwest. It is simpler and no attitude...or talk like this from the CEO that they are doing me some kind of favor..Ok Anderson ---here is my fair deal...I am flying Southwest whenever I can and you can try to sell your worthless stock options when you go chapt 7 next time....

"In an interview Tuesday, Delta CEO Richard Anderson said he thought it was a “fair dealâ€￾ to allow customers one piece of luggage plus the two items they can take as carry-on baggage. But after that, customers are using the airline as a shipping company.

“We are not an overnight express company,â€￾ Anderson said. Same-day shipping of bicycles, golf clubs and lots of 50-pound bags is quite expensive with shipping companies, he noted, and so the airline feels justified in raising prices for what it considers cargo hauling.

Delta will give customers 80 pounds or more of luggage for free with its one checked bag and carry-on allowance – one bag that fits within size restrictions and one personal bag such as a purse or briefcase. “We think that’s a fair deal,â€￾ Anderson said."
