What's new

DFW LINE MAINT NEW MANAGMENT ?

Hahaha... Like do we need another "new" team or how is the Blairwitch Project going? We've been shreddin through teams like popcorn at the movies..

Let me tell this...

Nothing will change in terms of on time performance until we start to care.. And thats not going to be happen until we get our "preconcessionary" contract back..

Lay off 30%... Get our dam money and bennies back.. And we'll be more efficient..

PERIOD!!!!!

After 25 years we know how to move tin.. There's just no incentive to...

Jager, what if you were in the bottom 30%? They might very well furlough the bottom 30% in your caste system, but you won't benefit from it. Oh well, lets continue to piss on the unborn, right?

Are unions all about preserving jobs, or protecting wages and benefits? You can't have both in a downturn, so decide which is more important. I'd rather see layoffs than paycuts, too.

"OMG"..E,

Something we AGREE on

TWO THINGS that Strong Unions NEVER DO.

1. GIVE BACK..one Friggin' cent it wages !!!

2. PROTECT SENIORITY AT ALL TIMES !!!

If the BRAINY management Can't keep their company from losing $$$$,..............OH WELL,......unfortunately some junior people have to HIT the STRRET,..................hopefully to Return rather soon.

OH, and..E,..............before you start with your Moralistic BS, about saving your fellow union brothers job at ANY cost,.........................MAYBE you can explain why..REAL UNIONS like the Longshoremen, or the Railroads follow the Union way, ..."to the LETTER" ???

Or AA can file BK.
Sell out to British Airways
Get rid of the ole timers + their retirement.
Keep the lower pay scale... more productive juniors
Put that one in your pipe and smoke it.
(Deleted by moderator: please keep politics in the Water Cooler.)

Oh and BTW to get back on topic...who is the new Management ?

AAmec.. It may sound crude but that’s the way the system works.. I’ve hit the streets a couple times in the decades that I have been here.. Each time I came back to a better contract because of it.. Well until lately!!!

The primary mission of the Union is to preserve headcount in contractual negotiations.. Headcount is unequivocally considered the Unions only source of revenue.. Higher hourly wage and a more efficient organization performed with less manpower is not on the agenda for the Union.. So your job is safe bro..

Southwest has 1/5 the manpower, 43% pay increase, and they farm out there heavy C’s.. But they work a full shift…. Don’t get me wrong.. This is a great gig here at American.. When I calculate the sum of cumulative minutes that I spend working on live aircraft, Some days I’m making more than a 747 Captain..

So what do you want… Be paid for your skill and expertise or just as another head in the herd…..

LINK: Webster: Labor Union
Main Entry: labor union
Function: noun
Date: 1866
: an organization of workers formed for the purpose of advancing its members' interests in respect to wages, benefits, and working conditions

Nowhere does any definition of a Union define their purpose as extension of the membership: unless one is represented by the TWU.

Jager,

I can appreciate your point. I have also been furloughed twice during my career here. I don't believe that layoffs played any role in better contracts though. Did furloughs help the A&Ps at NW? Ask any of the mechanics that didn't scab? Point of fact, SW has never had any furloughs and we all know, well, we salivate when we think of their hourly pay. Do you really believe if AA furloughs 30% we would be better compensated in the end? Did you look at the seniority list before you came up with that number? Remember, we have all been working under concessionary agreements all the while our leadership has stolen hundreds of millions of dollars off of our backs. This is the same leadership that is supposed to axe thousands of jobs and take care of the remaining employees? If you really believe this to be the case then I have some old World Com and Enron shares that you might be interested in. To be fair though, your point would make sense if it didn't include AA in it.

"I have nothing to give" Arpey

Maybe because seaports and railroad tracks aren't portable, there's no competition, and in most cases, the labor costs still pale in comparison to the fixed costs of running those operations?....

If you don't like the costs of the seaport in Long Beach or San Bruno, you're screwed. There are three or four options at most for unloading a container ship or car carrier in SoCal, and the companies are able to pass the cost along to customers.

Ever look to see how many different options there are to fly from BOS to SoCal?.... Nine or ten different airlines, all with different operating costs, and all with different levels of service. Good luck exerting any pricing power when you have a highly differentiated market....

Well Eric, you make 2 very valid points.

First that the railroad, and port workers have Management's NUTS, squarely "captured" in a VISE(which is EXACTLY the way I like it), with the Ability to TIGHTEN it at virtually ANY TIME.

(Eric, do you think that the port of Long Beach, has some level 3 NIT WIT, hauling guys(some who've got 1 EYE missing :eye: )...in for an attendence "chewin' out) ??????????? :bleh:

and second that REAL UNIONS protect wages and SENIORITY...at ALL COSTS !!!

Maybe thats why SENIOR train Engineers are making over $200,000 a year(w/OT) on the LIRR, or BNSF/UP

The topic is DFW Line Management--not socialism, communism, or fascism. Lectures and comments on the differences--or any corporate decision you happen to disagree with, therefore it becomes an unpalatable political system to you--will be deleted without further warning. Stick to the topic, please.

They already got rid of 35%.

Apparently they still have no incentive to pay us.
