DL Resumes SLC-MIA (Seasonal)

DL starts a lot of markets on a seasonal or less than daily basis and then builds from there.

DL has also operated SLC to MIA and FLL during THX peak day travel.

Yes but you realize DL operated both SLC-FLL & MIA (along with TPA) in the past more consistently?  I recall flying SLC-MIA circa January 2006, of course with the merger and relatively higher fuel prices many of those connections are now served across DTW and MSP, but its unfortunate for local pax traveling to Salt Lake.

AA better start shuttering the MIA hub. DL has officially won South Florida. Just like North Texas.

if you say so. You can let us know when the first flights to MIA from each carrier was but I'm pretty sure DL's roots in MIA go back for decades.

Right now, DL is focused on the west coast where DL's growth has made it the #2 of the 3 legacy carriers behind UA - and ahead of AA despite the merger.

BTW, DL's first SEA-HKG flight is on approach to HKG at the moment I wrote this post.

Perhaps when DL feels comfortable with where it is in SEA, they'll start building out MIA-Latin America.

It's not a question of if but when. For now, it will be the addition of SLC on a holiday seasonal basis.

great job, team USA!

Lol.

What you clearly fail to grasp is that DL was the first mover in the Wastach Mountain-South Florida market.

but who knew how much ski demand there was from MIA or DSM to SLC in the winter either?

who ever thought you would here that DL has become the largest airline or has opened a number of new routes.... but those folks on the 5th floor of the Admin Center know what it takes to keep growing DL's network.

Next thing you know we'll be hearing crazy stuff like IND, CMH, or MKE to Europe.

but, hey, it snows in Florida, right?

Don't get too excited it's just for the holidays.

that's what they have said with a lot of other markets.

and even if it is just for a week or two here or there, it is prime revenue that DL has figured out how to capture when demand is peak.

DL flies to both stations regularly. Adding an extra flight here or there is about matching supply and demand and maximizing the benefit for all stakeholders.

DL has proven very adept at optimizing its network.

DL is also returning to BOS-FLL on a seasonal, limited basis. DL obviously flew that market for years.

And, MIA-SLC is important because?  Other than shoveling rich South Americans to the ski slopes in winter.  (And, most of them go to Vail.)

any route and any customer is important. a little growth here, a little there, and all of a sudden you have a 3-4% increase in system capacity which is exactly what Dl has been doing of late

Makes it easier for the LDS missionaries heading to Brasil and other points in the Caribbean & Central/South America...

That is precisely why they are the dominant Legacy carrier in the north Utah market.

they fly predominantly thru ATL with a side of DTW thrown in.
