Do you guys ever actually fly?

As much as I love my job I hate what has happened to it. Whenever someone tells me that they have flown on us lately all I can say is I'm sorry. I'm sorry that the plane was late. I'm sorry that the plane was a mess. I'm sorry that you were hungry and there was nothing to eat. I'm sorry that there is no closet to hang your coat. My list could go on forever. That is something that we have in common with frequent fliers and the business traveler, we all wish that we could go back to the golden days of air travel. As much as you guys hate air travel today we hate it more.

I feel for FA's and what has happened to them. I always am respectful to them. I do not feel that way towards the pilot group.

As far as sacrificing for a job, several people in business do. Countless times I have to walk away from dinner with my family, walk out of events including ones that my children are playing in or not seeing them play in state championships, not being with my father for part of his time on his death bed, leave the movie theater, be up half of the night dealing with operational issues, sick time is not an option, taking whatever weekend time you have since you work just a half day on the weekend and just sleeping. Traveling stinks because you get behind in your office work. Some people are married to their job. It is a lifestyle for them. Most people want the income and the glory of travel, but can not be committed to what it takes to perform.

I am a servant leader. I get my employees the things they need to do their job. Sure, I provide direction and goals. Just as much as they work for me I work for them. I give each one the benefit of the doubt and know they will aspire to fill the shoes of the good reputations that I give them. Seek out goodness and you will find it. Expect great things of people and they will deliver great things. Set them up to succeed.

I tire of the whining of the Airways' skippers. Just drive the bus.

Sir
If YOU were running this company, we would be at the top! Your post was spot on!!
Thanks!

Well said! And, ditto.

I would venture to say every one of your passengers who is traveling for business.

Do you think we (your business traveling passengers) are being paid for our time to drive to the airport, go through the check in process, sit in a gate area, wait out cancellations and delays, circle the destination in a holding pattern, wait for a gate after landing, shlep to the rental car counter and drive to the client/conference? That's roughly the equivalent of a duty day for us when we travel. This can repeat itself each day of a work week, or if we're lucky we can settle for a few days in a city before doing it all over again (not including the final trip home).

If I work at a client site for 40,50 or 60 hours in a week, I spend another 10, 20 or 30 in travel (depending where it is). That adds up to a lot more than 65 work hours per month. We now work for a company were the perks went bye bye with the bankruptcy judge and we are now due.

Here's one crucial difference between me and you. I'm not complaining. I took this job knowing exactly what my pay is based on. So did you.
I believe PineyBob says his company knows of the problems of being on the road and allows him flexibly. Theirs are a lot of company’s that are fully aware of this. Usually the boss came form the same situation. Agent change tickets all the time for the early out home…We now work for a company were the perks went bye bye with the bankruptcy judge and we are now due.
